Metro Areas With The Best And Worst Cellphone Performance
A new set of rankings looks at an array of factors to determine which areas offer the best mobile performance.

How's the cellphone service in your city? There's not doubt you've had moments of frustration when trying to make a call or send a text message. If you've ever wondered how the cellphone performance in your city stacks up compared to others, a new report tell you just that.
RootMetrics, a company that provides insights into mobile network performance, came out with a set of rankings that show which cities offer the best mobile performance. The rankings include 125 of the most populated metro areas in the country ranked from highest to lowest based on six categories: overall performance, network reliability, network speed, data performance, call performance and text performance.
The scores for each category are created by RootMetrics, scaled from 0-100, with a higher score meaning better performance. The rankings are based on an average of all networks' scores in a given metropolitan area, weighted by the estimated national percentage of subscribers for each network. As RootMetrics explains, "performance scores from networks that have more customers are weighted heavier than scores from networks with fewer subscribers."

RootMetrics notes that users might assume that the largest cities in the U.S. feature better mobile performance than that found in smaller metropolitan areas however, their testing has found that this isn't always the case. For example, Chicago is the only metro area that ranks in the top 10 for both population and overall performance. Meanwhile, the two largest metropolitan areas, New York and the tri-state area and Los Angeles, ranked 66 and 49 respectively.
