New Detailed Analysis Shows Trump Not Very Charitable
Dissection by The Washington Post - conducted over months - shows the candidate often failed to deliver on promised donations.

A newly published analysis by The Washington Post of the charitable giving by Donald Trump demonstrates he often does not deliver on promises and has only made $7.8 million in donations out of his pocket since the earl 1980s.
"For as long as he has been rich and famous, Donald Trump has also wanted people to believe he is generous," the paper writes. "He spent years constructing an image as a philanthropist by appearing at charity events and by making very public — even nationally televised — promises to give his own money away.
"It was, in large part, a facade. A months-long investigation by The Washington Posthas not been able to verify many of Trump’s boasts about his philanthropy."

Among the donations that the paper said Trump had promised to make but they had been unable to verify were: his salary from the apprentice, proceeds of Trump University, and a $250,000 to a charity helping Israeli soldiers and veterans.
The paper also looked at the Trump Foundation and uncovered questionable donations there. The Foundation's largest - $264,631 - was used to renovate a fountain by Trump's Plaza Hotel.

It's smallest gift was $7 - to the Boy Scouts "in 1989, at a time when it cost $7 to register a new Scout. Trump’s oldest son was 11 at the time. Trump did not respond to a question about whether the money paid to register him."
The paper says it sent more than 70 questions to the Trump campaign in preparation of their story - and did not get a response to any of them.
