Assistant Fire Chief Found With 175 Bags Of Heroin: Cops

He was driving his fire department vehicle when he was caught with the 175 bags of heroin, police say.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — An assistant fire chief with the Westhampton Beach Fire Department was caught with 175 bags of heroin — and he was driving his fire department vehicle with the heroin inside, police said.

According to Southampton Town Police, Kevin T. Raynor, 32, of Westhampton Beach, was arrested on Saturday at 6 p.m. on Carols Way in Hampton Bays.

After being stopped by Southampton Town Police Community Response Unit officers for a traffic violation, Raynor was found to be in possession of the 175 bags of heroin and charged with fourth degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony, and third degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony, police said.

Southampton Det. Lt. James Kiernan confirmed Raynor had the heroin in his fire department vehicle, and said the heroin had a street value of $20 to $30 per bag, between $3,500 and $5,250.

Raynor was arraigned in Southampton Town Justice Court Monday morning and released on $5,000 bail, police said.
