Capitol Police Officer, Accused Of Aiding Jan. 6 Rioter, Resigns

The officer has been accused of urging someone who stormed the U.S. Capitol to delete incriminating social media posts.

WASHINGTON, DC — A U.S. Capitol police officer facing charges of obstruction in connection with helping a Jan. 6 rioter evade the FBI has resigned, according to a report by Politico.

Michael Riley, who has been charged with two counts of obstruction, allegedly encouraged a person who stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6 to delete incriminating social media posts, Politico reported. Riley was a 26-year veteran of the Capitol police force.

Riley was arrested on Oct. 15. He has pleaded not guilty to both charges.
