5 Things You Need To Survive Shark Week
Shark Week is going to try and scare you from making that last summer beach trip. Don't let it.

Duh-nuh. Duh-nuh. Duh-nuh-duh-nuh... It's that time of year, folks — Shark Week is upon us. The fun officially kicks off Sunday, July 23 at 7 p.m. ET/PT on the Discovery Channel.
Like every year, we're expecting tons of never-before-seen footage that will make us never want to go back in the water. Yes, we know, we're way more likely to get struck by lightning or die from a fall down the stairs. But we also know that during Shark Week, our worry of the unlikely (but not impossible) chance of being eaten by a great white seems to greatly increase.
If you're in the same boat (pun intended), you may be curious to know there are products out there that claim to to repel sharks. Our take? Who knows if they work, but they probably can't hurt. That said, swim at your own risk.

1. Sharkbanz
This product claims to be a "proven shark deterrent" that utilizes "patented magnetic tech" to keep sharks away. Does it work? Well, we haven't been eaten yet, but the jury's still out. As one commenter noted, though, it definitely "removes the 'Jaws' theme song from the kids' minds while [they're] in the ocean."

2. Shark Shield Scuba7 Shark Deterrent
If you're a serious adventurer, perhaps you'd like to try the shark shield. It's lightweight and fits right on your scuba gear. We can't independently confirm its effectiveness, but based on looks alone, we wouldn't peg it to be particularly appetizing.

3. Rut Grenade Shark Repellent
Attach this to your lifejacket or drag it behind your kayak — what's the harm? As one presumably facetious reviewer wrote, "Shark was going to attack me, but because of the repellent, thankfully, everyone else was eaten instead."

4. Shark (Book)
Best to know what you're up against, don't you think? This beautiful book of photographs lets you get up close and personal with great whites, whitetips, tiger and mako sharks — all from the comfort and safety of your own home.

5. "I'm Not A Seal" Sticker
If you're a surfer or standup paddler, why wouldn't you put this on the bottom of your board? Just keep in mind the warning, which reads: "Some sharks may not have the best eyesight and may not be able to pull back one they are close enough to read the sticker. Some sharks my not be able to read at all."
