These Shrimp Are Friends, Not Food
If you're looking for a unique gift, an aesthetically pleasing desk distraction or just a low- to no- maintenance pet, here it is.

It's not just a paperweight, and it's not quite a pet either. So what is this cool-looking orb with little life forces swimming around inside it? It's a self-contained aquatic ecosystem that doubles as awesome decor, otherwise known as the EcoSphere.
Each pod comes with shrimp, algae and microorganisms in saltwater. You can watch as the tiny shrimp grow, swim, eat and change colors — and you'll never have to feed them or change their water.
All you have to provide is a comfortable room temperature (between 60°F and 80°F) and indirect light, which can be natural or artificial. This external light keeps the algae growing, and the algae gets eaten by the shrimp. Then in turn, the algae and microorganisms break down the shrimp's waste — it's a perfect, continuous cycle.
