Here Are Donald Trump-Kim Jong Un Commemorative Coins (Photos)

Many on social media have criticized the coins, saying they honored a dictator.

WASHINGTON, DC — The White House Communications Agency has unveiled a commemorative “trip coin” ahead of next month's planned face-to-face summit between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. The photos, released Monday, show Trump and Kim facing each other over top the flags of their respective nations.

Trump, with his signature combover, gives a stern look on the lefthand side of the coin. An open-mouthed Kim with his signature haircut stares back on the righthand side of the coin.

Circling the edges of the coin are the words "United States of America," "Peace Talks" and "Democratic People's Republic of Korea" separated by stars and overtop a red banner.

An inner ring, overtop an ivory banner, include the words ""President Donald. J. Trump," "Supreme Leader Kim Jon-Un" and "2018."

The coin also described the meeting in Korean as a peace talk.

On the other side of the coin is a picture of Air Force One flying over the White House with the words "Visit Of The President," and "Donald J. Trump," along with the Seal of the President of the United States.

There were reportedly 250 coins made.

Many on social media took issue with the coin referring to Kim as "Supreme Leader," noting the country is run by an oppressive regime.

"Congratulations tin-pot dictators everywhere: not only will the United States fruitlessly negotiate with you, we will also emblazon your image in a coin and call you the "Supreme Leader," tweeted user @donmoyn, a professor of government at the University of Washington, Madison.

The White House said in a statement to media outlets that did not have any input on the "design and manufacture of the coin.” Members of the White House Communications Agency order a limited number of "commercially designed and manufactured" souvenir travel coins for purchase, the statement said.

Trump plans to meet with Kim on June 12 in Singapore, though both the rogue country and Trump have recently cast doubts on whether that meeting will actually happen. Trump on Tuesday said the meeting "may not work out for June 12" and suggested it might be postponed.
