Abigail Crocker, Patch Staff

Abigail got her start in journalism as a college freshman after joining her college radio station, 91.3 WUNH, at the University of New Hampshire. It was there she discovered her love for all things media, prompting her join the ranks of the writing center staff and declare herself a journalism major. In 2008, she graduated from the university with the Laura Rice Journalism Award given to one senior each year for outstanding writing and reporting during their undergraduate career. Also while an undergrad, she was nominated for a New England Press Association (NEPA) award for reporting on social justice and environmental issues at the Portsmouth Herald. Since graduating, she's worked as a reporter at East Bay Newspapers, taught a radio broadcasting class at Providence's arts non-profit AS220 and freelanced for the Providence Phoenix.

Abigail likes to call herself a musician; she plays in a guerilla-style street band. She lives on the East Side of Providence.

Beliefs

At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible and human beings have beliefs. * How would you describe your political beliefs?

I like to say I'm socially progressive but fiscally conservative.

Religion

* How religious would you say you are? Casual, observant, devout, non-religious?

I was raised in the Congregational Church but don't regularly attend. I enjoy going to all kinds of religious services as religious studies is one of my interests.

Local Hot Button Issues

* What do you think are the two or three most important issues facing the community?

I think cuts in state aid will continue to raise fiscal issues in the community, especially in the school department.
