A few years ago, I decided I needed to drop a few pounds. Little did I know this would start a journey towards my new career. I began like most women I know - Weight Watchers. As I experimented with what kind of food made me feel satisfied for the least amount of Points, I began to read more about what's actually GOOD for me to eat. Crazy concept, right??
My interest in health and nutrition grew over time as I made significant change to my diet and activity level. I began to devour news articles and books on nutrition research. At first I thought this was just a hobby, but I really enjoyed talking about what I was learning with my friends and family. So I figured - who said I can't make a living out of this? AND help people who just don't understand WHY it's not OK to eat "food" that can withstand nuclear holocaust ;) My new career goal is to educate others on the importance of nutrition and to help influence change.
In September 2011 I enrolled in a health coach training program at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and it was the best decision I ever made! I am studying over 100 different dietary theories and learning about bio-individuality (i.e. just because a no-carb diet worked for your friend, doesn't mean it's right for you!) Of course, I still have my day job as Sr Project Manager at John Hancock Life Insurance... for now ;)
In addition to helping others achieve their health and lifestyle goals, I also enjoy practicing Bikram yoga, running around with Melrose Boot Camp, cooking (I'm learning!) and spending time with my fiance Patrick and our cat Coco.
