SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — A new no-audition community rock and pop choir is coming to San Luis Obispo this fall, and the idea started with one local resident who missed singing with her choir.
Kathy Duda was a member of Voices Rock in Denver before moving to San Luis Obispo. After experiencing firsthand the friendships, music and sense of community that came from singing together each week, she wanted to bring the same experience to her new home.
Now, Voices Rock California is preparing to launch its first San Luis Obispo choir.
Voices Rock founder Betsy Leighton, a former social worker and therapist, started the organization with 15 singers in Denver in 2014. The idea was simple: create a place where people could sing together without auditions, pressure or the expectation that they already consider themselves singers.
“We’re not looking for perfect singers,” Leighton said. “We’re creating a place where people can make music, meet people and feel like they belong.”
Voices Rock choirs sing arrangements of familiar rock and pop music and welcome people with a wide range of musical experience. There are no auditions and no need to read music.
The San Luis Obispo choir is currently forming for its first session, and Voices Rock California is also searching for the right local musician or music educator to lead the group.

Get ready to Pickleball for a Purpose! Cambria Pickleball by the Sea is hosting the Cambria Firefighters Pickleball Fundraiser on Saturday October&nbsp;24th and Sunday October 25th!&nbsp;&nbsp;

All are welcome to participate in the festivities on and off the courts. In addition to four offered tournament&nbsp;sessions, there will be games, such as- pickleball bingo, Bottom's Up target practice, and opportunities to interact and socialize with firefighters at the event.&nbsp;
