Inspired by founder Duncan Phillips’s belief in the “joy-giving and life-enhancing” power of art, <a href="https://www.phillipscollection.org/event/2026-08-15-creative-aging" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Creative Aging</a> reflects The Phillips Collection’s commitment to art, wellness, and lifelong learning. Creative Aging is designed for older adults living with memory loss. Every Creative Aging session begins in the galleries, where participants share observations, explore emotions, and connect with works of art. These conversations continue through hands-on artmaking, resulting in the artworks featured in this exhibition. This exhibition celebrates curiosity, creativity, resilience, and joy. Together, these artworks remind us that art is essential.

Washington experienced an unprecedented rise in prostitution during and after the Civil War.
During this period, Pennsylvania Avenue became DC's most notorious red-light district, from the ramshackle "boarding houses" of Murder Bay to the glamorous pleasure houses of Marble Alley, all within sight of the Capitol. Also, a new profession for women was rising, that of the "female lobbyist." This tour will introduce you to some of the most notorious women of mid-19th Century DC,&nbsp; The route starts at the Willard Intercontinental and travels down Pennsylvania Avenue, which was the main thoroughfare along which DC's red-light district arose. The tour ends at the National Museum of the American Indian.

Come on a winding journey through an era in which the U Street neighborhood of Washington, DC was giving rise to a vibrant jazz scene and establishing the roots of a new movement in black intellectualism.
Also known as "Black Broadway", the U Street corridor was where the big names in jazz came to play at one of the dozens of clubs and theaters, and hobnob with writers and thinkers such as Langston Hughes, Zora Neale Hurston, and Alain Locke. Tour begins at the historic Howard Theater at 620 T Street NW and ends at the corner of S and 15th Street NW. The tour also makes a halfway stop at the famous Ben's Chili Bowl for a bathroom break and optional refreshment.

Use promocode Patch10 for a 10% discount! The celebrated Jasper Quartet — hailed as “expressively assured and beautifully balanced” (Gramophone) — takes center stage in Chiarina’s season opener that draws on poems and legends. Reinaldo Moya’s Yara, inspired by the myth of Venezuela’s most powerful female deity, enlivens vibrant string quartet writing with musical imagery and folk allusions, and Mozart’s mature string quartet famously elevates the cello to a melodic role. Schoenberg’s storied string sextet Verklärte Nacht (Transfigured Night), based on the poem of the same name, tells an otherworldly story of love and redemption through the lush, expressive musical language of turn-of-the-century Vienna.

Arlington County Council of PTAs (CCPTA) today announced the official launch of Fill the Break: The 2026 Arlington CCPTA Food Security Challenge. Running from September 16 through December 12, 2026, this countywide initiative aims to bridge the nutrition gap for Arlington Public Schools (APS) students during weekends, holidays, snow days, and extended school breaks when school-provided meals are unavailable.
To seed the effort, CCPTA membership has directly committed $2,000 from its central fund. Through the &ldquo;Fill the Break&rdquo; campaign, CCPTA is inviting local families, neighborhood businesses, civic organizations, and community members to match &ndash; and exceed &ndash; this initial investment.
The fundraiser incorporates a friendly competition between APS school PTAs &ndash; the one that raises the most money will win an award, as will the school PTA that earns the most individual donations!
All funds raised through the campaign directly support the newly established CCPTA Fill the Break Food Security Grant Fund. Member PTA and PTSAs across Arlington will be eligible to apply for micro-grants to finance localized food initiatives, such as emergency &ldquo;Snow Day Packs,&rdquo; weekend pantry drives, and grocery gift card distributions. Make sure to select your school&rsquo;s PTA to receive credit for your donation, whether you donate online or by check!
Donations may be made online at <a href="https://www.givebacks.com/causes/arlington-ccpta/campaigns/arlingtonccpta" rel="noopener nofollow" target="_blank">https://www.givebacks.com/causes/arlington-ccpta/campaigns/arlingtonccpta</a>
