Estate planning is way too important to neglect. Do not trust non-attorneys or online services to handle your estate plan – the consequences may be dire. The choice of a lawyer is an important decision and should not be based solely upon advertisements.

Join Durand-Hedden for The People’s House? The Reality of Personal Taste in the White House, a talk with Ulysses Grant Dietz. Dietz will survey how the interiors at the White House have changed from the 1817 rebuilding after the 1814 burning, to the sixty-six years since the Kennedy renovations of 1960. Historical images will underscore the reality that no administration has ever left the White House alone, all making changes to represent their vision of home, and how the president and his family would be represented in the world.
Dietz worked with the Newark Museum for 37 years, much of that time as Curator of Decorative Arts. He is the author of books on Victorian furniture, art pottery, studio ceramics, jewelry, and the White House. He is the great-great-grandson of U.S. President Ulysses S. Grant.
Doors will open at 1:30 pm on Sunday, October 11, and the talk will begin at 2 pm at The Woodland Parlor, 60 Woodland Road in Maplewood. Pre-registration is requested and available at <a href="https://www.durandhedden.org/dhh-events/peoples-house?utm_source=patch&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_campaign=peoples_house_oct2026&amp;utm_content=paid-calendar_listing" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">DurandHedden.org</a>. The talk will be followed by a reception with light refreshments at Durand Hedden House, 523 Ridgewood Road, Maplewood.
Durand-Hedden House &amp; Garden Members should choose Member tickets, with additional event-specific donations always welcome. The event is free for all, but non-members are asked to consider making a donation when getting tickets to support the House, grounds, and our programming. Information on Membership is available on our website. Membership starts at just $25 a year.
Parking for Durand-Hedden House is available on nearby streets.

“The Story They're Not Telling; How the media has excised the words and ideology of Islamist terror from its reporting, making it easier to villainize Israel, the one country in the Middle East who fights against it” will be the focus of a discussion led by Jennifer Kouzi, a U.S. Media Researcher and Analyst with CAMERA (the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting and Analysis). Jennifer will discuss the examples of various issues that arise in media reporting on Israel and the broader Middle East. She will explain how CAMERA responds to everything, from erroneous reporting to both subtle and overt media bias.
Jennifer Kouzi monitors anti-Israel bias in the media at CAMERA. Prior to joining CAMERA, Jennifer was an attorney in the greater New York Metropolitan area for over two decades. Jennifer has a B.A. from the University of Rochester, a law degree from Temple University and an M.A. in Political Science, with concentration in Religion and Middle Eastern Politics, from Bar-Ilan University.
Founded in 1982 to monitor bias in print and network media, CAMERA has broadened its expertise to confront misinformation directed at Israel and its supporters. CAMERA corrects falsehoods and distortions in the legacy media, exposes disinformation on social media and other digital platforms, tackles antisemitism in K-12 education, supports pro-Israel students on college campuses, and challenges anti-Israel campaigns.
This event, sponsored by the B'nai Shalom Culture &amp; Learning Center (CLC), is open to the public and free of charge. To attend, you must register by October 15th through <a href="https://bswo.shulcloud.com/event/clc-camera-speaker.html." rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">bswo.shulcloud.com/event/clc-camera-speaker.html.</a>
