<a href="https://www.rachelrizzoart.com/about" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Rachel Rizzo</a> (she/her) is an artist and educator working in Boston, MA. Her recent paintings and mixed media work are a reflection of genealogical and artistic research started in 2020, when she began the process of applying for Italian citizenship, jus sanguinis (by right of blood).&nbsp;

Supported by four artist residencies in Italy since 2022, this research examines the layered cultural histories and folk traditions that shape Italian and Italian-American identity.&nbsp;

She is interested specifically in the evolution of Catholic rituals with roots in pagan folk traditions, as well as how local communities organized partisan resistance against fascism. 
Her painting, collage, and mixed media works have combined material and imagery culled from her complicated personal experiences growing up in the Catholic church, and the spiraling web of historic and cultural references that are revealed as her research continues.
About Washington Street: Washington Street is a gallery and studio space for more than twenty visual artists; and presents exhibitions, concerts, film series, and other art initiatives. Washington Street participates in Somerville Open Studios each May, as well as other community events throughout the year.&nbsp;




Washington Street’s gallery and studios are at 321 Washington Street, Somerville, MA, between Union Square and Beacon Street, a five-minute walk from Union Square and a ten-minute walk from Harvard. Washington Street is near or on the following bus routes: 85, 87, 91, 109 and CT2.

The Yoga of Energy Flow 300-hour Yoga Teacher Training brings all aspects of yoga to deeper levels of experience, understanding, and application, welcoming both working teachers and dedicated practitioners who are ready to go further. If you are a teacher, you will expand your skills, encounter new methodologies, and return to your students with fresh material and renewed inspiration. If you are a practitioner coming for personal growth, you will find your understanding of this ancient art transformed at its roots. Both paths are equally honored here. Over 11 immersive months, you will encounter yoga’s classical philosophy, its therapeutic power, its energetic intelligence, and its most sophisticated methodologies — and carry all of it forward into your life, your practice, and wherever your path leads. Each monthly weekend immersion is thematically focused, carefully curated, and led by a faculty of master teachers. Between gatherings, two live Zoom sessions per month sustain your studies, your practice, and your growing community. This training stands apart: every one of its 270 hours is spent in direct contact with master teachers. That is not a small thing. It is where knowledge becomes wisdom. Upon completion, you will be eligible for the RYT-500 designation: Registered Yoga Teacher at the 500-hour level ~ not simply a credential, but a transformation. On Sunday, September 20th, Sudbury will host our third inaugural <a href="https://kids.pmc.org/sudbury" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Sudbury PMC Kids Bike Ride</a>.&nbsp;Our ride is a 1-mile loop that riders may enjoy as long as they would like. The one mile course is entirely paved and loops through the beautiful residential neighborhoods of historic Sudbury. Parents are welcome to ride with their children but it is not required. If a parent chooses to accompany their child on the bike, we ask that they register as volunteers.&nbsp;
Many kids choose to ride the loop 3-6-12 or even 15 times. We encourage riders to participate as long as they would like. We will have special badges for riders who accomplish 5-8-12 and 15 miles, too! Please indicate at registration an estimate of your rider's total distance (this will help us for event organization).&nbsp;There is also an enclosed parking lot loop all starting from Curtis Middle School in Sudbury, MA. (Adults may opt to register as volunteers if they would like to ride with the kids). Before the ride there will be music and bike decorating; during the ride and following there will be an Ice-Cream Truck, Food Truck, Coffee Truck, huge bouncy castle, lawn games, music and more. All registered riders will get a free ice cream from our friends at Trombetta’s Farm Ice Cream. Registration takes place from 8:30am-9:45am. The ride is from 10:00am-11:30am, and food and games will be available from 10:00am - 1:00pm.
“The Pan-Mass Challenge is a Massachusetts-based bike-a-thon that raises more money for charity than any other single athletic fundraising event in the country. Always held the first weekend in August, the PMC raises funds for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, a world leader in adult and pediatric cancer treatment and research. Each summer, thousands of riders and volunteers from 43 states and 12 countries participate in the PMC, all with a common goal: to find a cure for cancer.
100 percent of all rider-raised funds go directly to cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber and the Jimmy Fund. The PMC is Dana-Farber’s single largest supporter and is 62 percent of the Jimmy Fund’s annual revenue. Since 1980, the PMC has raised $972 million for Dana-Farber.”
The Sudbury PMC Kids Bike Ride empowers young participants to contribute to a meaningful cause while enjoying a fun activity. By offering multiple course options, every child will have the opportunity to participate and make a difference - regardless of age or ability. Each ride distance is carefully planned to be safe and enjoyable, with designated routes through historic Sudbury neighborhoods that are well-marked and closely monitored by volunteers. For the youngest participants, the tot lot loop provides a secure environment where kids can ride in a contained area - strollers, scooters, tricycles are ALL welcome!
Beyond the joy of bike riding, the Sudbury PMC Kids Bike Ride serves as a powerful educational experience for children, teaching them about the impact of collective efforts in fighting cancer. As they pedal for a purpose, they learn about empathy, community involvement, and the importance of supporting breakthroughs in treatment and cures at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. This event not only raises crucial funds for cancer research but also instills valuable life lessons in the young riders; collectively we all pedal towards a more cancer-free future. As with all PMC rides, every penny donated goes directly to cancer treatment and research at Dana-Farber.
