Music in May (MiM) celebrates its 19th season May 26-31, 2026, in an expanded offering of both free and ticketed events. In partnership with Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History (MAH), our 19th anniversary festival opens with a free event, Main Stage Concert–Program 1, in MAH’s Atrium on Tuesday, May 26th, 5:00-6:00 p.m., featuring a string quartet from Ensemble San Francisco performing repertoire by Beethoven, Haydn, Max Richter, and Jessie Montgomery.

19th Annual MUSIC IN MAY: Open Rehearsal Stravinksy’s L’Histoire du Soldat

Samper Recital Hall (located on Cabrillo College campus)

The concert will feature 19 world-renowned artists, including the daughter of the co-founder of Music in May, David Kaun. Abigail Kaun will narrate a newly abridged text to accompany Stravinsky’s A Soldier’s Tale, which blends musical genres performed by 7 instrumentalists and spoken word, telling the story of a battle-worn soldier who bargains with the Devil, surrendering his violin for a magical book. Saturday also features a new work, 7 Dances, by Brian Raphael Nabors and a hair-raising duo for flute and percussion by Payton MacDonald.
