19th Annual MUSIC IN MAY: Main Stage Concert-Program 3

Are you holding onto boxes of sensitive documents? Not sure what to do with the shredded paper you've accumulated? (Shredded paper is not accepted in the curbside recycling bin.)&nbsp;Dispose of your confidential documents at our free Paper Shred Event on Saturday, May 9th from 9 am - 1 pm, at the City Hall Parking Lot (corner of Chestnut and Church St).&nbsp;
A maximum of 3 standard-size banker boxes (10″x 12″x 15″) per household for City of Santa Cruz residents only. Paper will be shredded in front of you and then responsibly recycled at a Steri-Cycle facility.
The event lasts until 1 p.m. or until the truck is full, whichever comes first. We hope to see you there!&nbsp;

These powerful allies, when unified with your intention, can assist you in bringing about all of the positive change your heart desires for yourself, your family, community, this Earth, and beyond. This workshop will support you in playing the crystal bowls with skill and intention so you can bring them into your life in whatever ways feel good: into your daily practice, helping loved ones heal and manifest goodness, your work environment, morning or evening meditation, playing on the beach or in the forest, for yourself, a few friends, or groups of people. Crystal Bowls are easy to transport and uplift every environment they are added into. In this workshop you will learn:
<ul><li>what mallets to use and when</li><li>how to play the bowls with skill and grace</li><li>why crystal bowls are so powerful and how to work with this power well</li><li>what bowls will work best for you and your intentions</li><li>how to offer mini sound baths to yourself and your community</li></ul>
You do not need to own any bowls yourself, we have plenty to practice with and learn from. This workshop is for absolute beginners as well as for established practitioners desiring to further their skill and knowledge. Join us for this powerful workshop to clear, heal, open, amplify and magnify all the good that is wanting to manifest and unfold in your life. If the crystal bowls have been calling you, say YES! and show up for these magical and potent instruments of our ascension. Carrie Arlah is the co-founder of Breath+Oneness. She began her professional music career at the age of 11 with the San Francisco Girls Chorus, singing professionally and traveling the world for years, eventually releasing her own self-produced album under her middle name Arlah. She has played the flute, oboe, various saxes, piano, trumpet, harmonium, shruti box, drums, and other instruments over the years, adding crystal bowls to her most recent musical lexicon and traversing happily and deeply into the world of Sound Healing. She is passionate about music, sound, and the ability of both to positively transform people on every level and is blessed to help people find their own direct relationship to the magical world of healing resonance and vibrating it out themselves into the world for uplift.

A hands-on introduction to the instruments of sound ceremony Sound has long been a pathway into stillness, presence, and deeper awareness. Across cultures and traditions, instruments have been used to create spaces of listening, reflection, and connection. Join Dallas McKenzie and Adron Beene, teachers in the Fall 2026 Ceremony of Sound course, for an intimate series introducing several of the foundational instruments used in sound ceremonies and contemplative sound practice. Each gathering offers a hands-on introduction to the voice and character of several instruments, including:&nbsp;&nbsp; Handpans and Tongue Drums 4/4 1-2:30pm Didgeridoos 4/4 3-4:30 and 5/16 1-2:30pm Gongs 4/19 1-3 (There will be a Gong event 3:30-5pm)&nbsp; Native American Flutes&nbsp; 4/26 2-3:30pm&nbsp; Harmonium and Shruti&nbsp; 5/9 1-3pm&nbsp; Didgeridoos&nbsp; Repeat 5/16 1-2:30pm Who This Is For These gatherings are ideal for people who:
<ul><li>Feel curious about sound instruments but do not know where to begin</li><li>Are interested in instruments for personal meditation or relaxation</li><li>Would like to explore sound used in sound ceremonies or sound healing</li><li>Simply want to spend time experiencing beautiful and unusual instruments</li></ul>
You Do Not Need to Be a Musician Many people feel drawn to these instruments but hesitate because they believe they are not musical. These gatherings are designed especially for beginners and curious explorers. The instruments themselves are intuitive, and learning begins simply with listening, breath, and touch. A Hands-On Experience Because the experience is experiential, participants will have the opportunity to work directly with the instruments, ask questions, and begin discovering which instruments resonate most naturally with them. Yes, you may bring your own instruments!&nbsp; This is a small, hands-on learning experience To allow everyone time with the instruments and personal guidance, each gathering is intentionally limited to 10 participants. Early registration is recommended. What You Will Leave With Participants often leave these gatherings with:
<ul><li>&nbsp;A direct experience of several sound instruments</li><li>A sense of which instruments resonate most strongly with them</li><li>A basic understanding of how these instruments are used in sound ceremonies</li><li>Practical guidance on how someone might begin learning an instrument</li><li>A deeper appreciation for the role of sound in creating calm and presence</li></ul>
Whether you are simply curious or feel a deeper interest in sound, these gatherings offer a welcoming place to explore. Discover the instruments that speak to you. A Pathway Into Deeper Study For many people, these introductory gatherings are simply an opportunity to explore an instrument that has been calling to them. For those who feel a deeper connection, these experiences may also serve as a doorway into our broader Ceremony of Sound program — a 100 hour structured path of study exploring sound, presence, and the art of holding space with instruments. The Ceremony of Sound course brings together tradition, intuitive listening, and contemplative practice to support those who feel called to share sound with others. Adron Beene is a sound ceremony facilitator and teacher whose work centers on the thoughtful and intentional use of gongs within immersive sound experiences. Drawing on classical music training and the Viniyoga tradition, his teaching emphasizes sequencing, harmonics, transitions, and attunement to group dynamics to support regulation, integration, and ease. He teaches gongs as the primary medium, with bowls, voice, harmonium, handpans, and flutes used in supportive roles. Adron was a co-teacher for the 2025 Fall Ceremony of Sound training and has offered workshops in Voice Optimization and Introduction to Gongs. It is the women who gathered around her, showing up in a thousand different ways - a job lead, a meal, a hug that arrived at exactly the right moment. And it is the love you pour into your own children, and all that you carry quietly on their behalf. In this sound healing, we gather in community to honor all of it. Through vocals and EarthTones crystal bowls, Paitra will guide us through a practice of deep gratitude and gentle release - celebrating the women who shaped us while creating space to set down what we have been carrying, so that we may offer our children the fullest version of ourselves. This session holds space for mothers, daughters, and anyone who has been mothered or has mothered in any form. Come ready to receive, to remember, and to be held by sound and by community. Paitra Houts is a graduate of the Ceremony of Sound training, through which she found her home in her voice, weaving vocals and EarthTones crystal bowls to help people reconnect with their inner wisdom. She founded Bay Area Sound Healing to offer people a space to release what is no longer theirs, reclaim what always has been, and walk forward in alignment with their highest self. Paitra has a gift for finding the connective tissue between our lived experiences and what is most deeply true. Her sessions open a doorway to ancient wisdom, that place within us that feels both far away and entirely our own.
