Make time to create together at the Rose Art Museum. Inspired by the intimate paintings in <a href="https://www.brandeis.edu/rose/exhibitions/2026/jenna-gribbon.html" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Jenna Gribbon: Entwined</a>, this participatory drawing workshop invites friends, partners, loved ones, and even new acquaintances to explore the shared experience of seeing and being seen. Through a series of playful drawing exercises, participants will alternate between artist and subject, discovering how careful observation, conversation, and reciprocity can deepen our connections with one another. Inspired by Gribbon's own use of snapshots on her cell phone to crop and compose her paintings, several exercises will also incorporate participants' phones as creative tools for framing, seeing, and drawing from unexpected perspectives.
Led by artist Ariel Freiberg, the workshop is open to adults of all skill levels, and all drawing materials will be provided. Bring someone special or come on your own. Solo participants will be paired with others, making this a welcoming opportunity to meet new people while experiencing Gribbon's exhibition in a fresh and meaningful way.

The people closest to Jenna Gribbon have become the enduring subjects of her paintings, but likeness is only the beginning. In this virtual conversation, the artist will be joined by The New Yorker staff writer Naomi Fry to reflect on the ideas, relationships, and philosophical questions that have shaped Gribbon’s practice, on the occasion of her first museum survey, <a href="https://www.brandeis.edu/rose/exhibitions/2026/jenna-gribbon.html" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Jenna Gribbon: Entwined</a>.&nbsp;
Together, they will explore Gribbon’s distinctive approach to painting, the collaborative nature of her portraits, and the ways in which her work challenges conventional notions of representation, intimacy, and observation. Spanning the artist’s career while looking toward its future, the conversation offers a rare opportunity to hear Gribbon discuss the evolution of her practice, her creative process, and the enduring concerns that continue to inform her work.

Join us for a screening of Agnès Varda's beloved feminist classic One Sings, the Other Doesn't (1977), a joyful celebration of friendship, love, motherhood, and the freedom to define one's own life. The film has been a lasting source of inspiration for Jenna Gribbon, who has said, "Agnès Varda is probably my biggest influence outside of painting." Like Varda, Gribbon finds beauty in everyday relationships, revealing the quiet intimacy, tenderness, and complexity of shared lives.
Presented in conjunction with Jenna Gribbon: Entwined, the screening will be introduced by Brandeis Professor Sophia Niehaus. Following the film, Niehaus will be joined by Entwined co-curator Chad Sirois for a conversation exploring the rich connections between Varda's groundbreaking cinema and Gribbon's paintings, inviting audiences to discover how two visionary artists reimagine family, intimacy, caregiving, and the transformative power of love.One Sings, the Other Doesn't, 1977. On Sunday, September 20th, Sudbury will host our third inaugural <a href="https://kids.pmc.org/sudbury" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Sudbury PMC Kids Bike Ride</a>.&nbsp;Our ride is a 1-mile loop that riders may enjoy as long as they would like. The one mile course is entirely paved and loops through the beautiful residential neighborhoods of historic Sudbury. Parents are welcome to ride with their children but it is not required. If a parent chooses to accompany their child on the bike, we ask that they register as volunteers.&nbsp;
Many kids choose to ride the loop 3-6-12 or even 15 times. We encourage riders to participate as long as they would like. We will have special badges for riders who accomplish 5-8-12 and 15 miles, too! Please indicate at registration an estimate of your rider's total distance (this will help us for event organization).&nbsp;There is also an enclosed parking lot loop all starting from Curtis Middle School in Sudbury, MA. (Adults may opt to register as volunteers if they would like to ride with the kids). Before the ride there will be music and bike decorating; during the ride and following there will be an Ice-Cream Truck, Food Truck, Coffee Truck, huge bouncy castle, lawn games, music and more. All registered riders will get a free ice cream from our friends at Trombetta’s Farm Ice Cream. Registration takes place from 8:30am-9:45am. The ride is from 10:00am-11:30am, and food and games will be available from 10:00am - 1:00pm.
“The Pan-Mass Challenge is a Massachusetts-based bike-a-thon that raises more money for charity than any other single athletic fundraising event in the country. Always held the first weekend in August, the PMC raises funds for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, a world leader in adult and pediatric cancer treatment and research. Each summer, thousands of riders and volunteers from 43 states and 12 countries participate in the PMC, all with a common goal: to find a cure for cancer.
100 percent of all rider-raised funds go directly to cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber and the Jimmy Fund. The PMC is Dana-Farber’s single largest supporter and is 62 percent of the Jimmy Fund’s annual revenue. Since 1980, the PMC has raised $972 million for Dana-Farber.”
The Sudbury PMC Kids Bike Ride empowers young participants to contribute to a meaningful cause while enjoying a fun activity. By offering multiple course options, every child will have the opportunity to participate and make a difference - regardless of age or ability. Each ride distance is carefully planned to be safe and enjoyable, with designated routes through historic Sudbury neighborhoods that are well-marked and closely monitored by volunteers. For the youngest participants, the tot lot loop provides a secure environment where kids can ride in a contained area - strollers, scooters, tricycles are ALL welcome!
Beyond the joy of bike riding, the Sudbury PMC Kids Bike Ride serves as a powerful educational experience for children, teaching them about the impact of collective efforts in fighting cancer. As they pedal for a purpose, they learn about empathy, community involvement, and the importance of supporting breakthroughs in treatment and cures at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. This event not only raises crucial funds for cancer research but also instills valuable life lessons in the young riders; collectively we all pedal towards a more cancer-free future. As with all PMC rides, every penny donated goes directly to cancer treatment and research at Dana-Farber.
