I am a registered ER nurse and single mom that is currently unable to work due to cancer. I was diagnosed with a rare cancer (Myxoid liposarcoma) to my right knee and just finished my radiation. I am awaiting surgery to remove my tumor. My short term disability through work was denied, as a nurse through the insurance company decided my tumor was present prior to my effective date. Despite my two oncology doctors statement that there is no way to determine how long the tumor has been there. I have never sought medical treatment, had symptoms or been diagnosed prior, yet I have to appeal to get the benefits I deserve. So many people who are sick have to fight insurance companies when it is the last thing they should be doing. I have dedicated my life to helping others, and would still be trying to save lives if I could. But the only life I can try to save right now is my own. My hope is to not only promote the campaign my mom made for me, but to shed light on this broken system. Many people besides me are in need of help and deserve the benefits they pay for. I am actively trying to make a positive from a negative situation. It is my hope that you can help me do that.
