Hello fellow animal and wine lovers!
Bring your furry friends and join us for Yappy Hour on the last Friday of each month to our wine tasting shop in Downtown Leesburg, VA.&nbsp;The Humane Society of Loudoun County needs your support. Please donate pet food, treats, toys, etc. to assist the volunteers who foster in their homes as part of the Pet Pantry Project. Oh, and also basque in the companionship of like-minded pet lovers everywhere!

Meet more than 40 local writers and authors on hand from 1:00 to 5:00 in Lansdowne's Clubhouse Auditorium with their books to sign and sell and lots to talk about. Leesburg’s own independent bookstore, Birch Tree Books, is partnering the LWVA Writers Group to host the event this year, along with the Loudoun County Public Library. The LWVA Writers Group will be presenting four inspirational workshops for all the other would-be writers in our community. Come join us at this FREE event and celebration of everything about books and writing. Pile up your summer reading or be inspired to start writing … or both!

Join Solace Brewing Co., Halcyon Watson and the Berlin Calling Band for a free 80's summer concert!This female fronted 80's cover band will be throwing it back beginning at 3PM on Saturday, June 27 in Leesburg at Halcyon Watson.This is a family friendly, pet friendly, free, open to the public concert. Concert will be held rain or shine with a tent to shield you either way.Food trucks will be Killer T's Sammies and Howdy Brews will be serving specialty sandwiches and crafted drinks.&nbsp; Solace Brewing Co. will be on site with beer, wine from Paradise Springs and canned cocktails from Coastal Cocktails.Bring the family, come hang out on the patio for this totally rad 80's concert!

Chapman DeMary Trail

Join us at the Chapman DeMary Trail on Sunday, June 28 to learn about Eastern bluebirds and walk to the bluebird trail that was installed for a Girl Scout Bronze Award project. At 1 p.m., we will walk from the Chapman DeMary Trail to the Suzanne R. Kane Nature Preserve where the bluebird boxes have been installed. In 2025, Elaine Opinsky and Scarlett Baboval earned their Girl Scout Bronze Award by installing a bluebird trail. Learn about their project and why they selected it. This bluebird trail is part of the system of trails monitored by the Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy. One of their bluebird trail monitors will join the walk to provide details about the program, information about bluebirds, and the value of having these established trails. 
Here are some facts about Eastern Bluebirds from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology website:
<ul>
 <li>Eastern Bluebirds live in our area year-round.</li>
 <li>Eastern Bluebirds eat mostly insects, wild fruit and berries.</li>
 <li>Occasionally, Eastern Bluebirds have also been observed capturing and eating larger prey items such as shrews, salamanders, snakes, lizards and tree frogs.</li>
 <li>Bluebirds can sight their tiny prey items from 60 feet or more away. </li>
 <li>Blue in birds always depends on the light, and male bluebirds often look plain gray-brown from a distance. </li>
 <li>Eastern Bluebird populations fell in the early twentieth century as aggressive introduced species such as European Starlings and House Sparrows made available nest holes increasingly difficult for bluebirds to hold on to. In the 1960s and 1970s, establishment of bluebird trails and other nest-box campaigns alleviated much of this competition and Eastern Bluebird numbers have been recovering since.</li>

Discover Nature’s Secrets is a monthly series of nature walks and environmental programs designed to inspire appreciation for the natural world. The program is hosted by the Purcellville Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, often in partnership with the Tree and Environment Sustainability Committee and the Purcellville Arts Council.
