Silent Saturday Retreat: Healing Meditations The Magical Practice of Taking and Giving w/Kadam Michelle
The practice of taking and giving is one of the most powerful methods for opening our hearts and healing our mental and physical illnesses. This ancient practice brings mental peace and happiness and is especially helpful in situations where we may otherwise feel powerless to directly help others or overcome adversity. Taking and giving is a well-known healing meditation practice. In this retreat, we will learn to heal our mind and enhance our love, compassion, and wisdom.
The morning consists of three, thirty minute meditations, with thirty minutes of silence in between each session to enjoy quiet reflection and let your mind go deeper into an experience of meaning and peace. The last half hour of the morning will be a discussion and question and answer session to help you consolidate what you would like to bring with you from the retreat into your daily life. Everyone is welcome. No experience necessary.

Mother’s Day is a beautiful opportunity to reflect on the love and care that mothers give. Engage in a special meditation called “remembering the kindness of mothers,” in which we take time to recall the many ways our mother has nurtured and protected us from the very beginning of our life. This heartfelt reflection helps us strengthen our love and appreciation — qualities that bring deep peace and happiness to our own mind.
Buddha also taught that we have lived countless lives, and in each of those lives we have had a mother who showed us great kindness. By expanding our gratitude outward, we begin to view everyone with the same warmth and affection we feel for our own mother. This opens the door to a universal love that is powerful, healing, and profoundly meaningful.

Death is a natural part of life, yet many of us feel unsure how to help loved ones during this important transition. In the Kadampa Buddhist tradition, death is understood as a meaningful moment—one that can be approached with clarity, compassion, and purpose. In this workshop, we will explore practical and heartfelt ways to support others at the time of death and after they have passed. Drawing from Buddhist teachings on the death process, we will learn how our presence, prayers, and intentions can be deeply beneficial for those who are dying, helping to create a calm and peaceful environment for their mind. The workshop will also introduce powa, a special Buddhist ceremony and meditation practice performed on behalf of the deceased. Powa is a method of compassionate assistance that helps guide the consciousness toward a positive rebirth. We will learn when and how this practice is performed, its meaning, and how it can be engaged in as an act of kindness and care. This workshop is suitable for anyone interested in end-of-life support, caregiving, spiritual care, or developing a wiser and more compassionate relationship with death. No previous experience with meditation or Buddhism is required. Includes: Clear explanations of Buddhist views on death and dying Guidance on how to help others at the time of death Introduction to the powa ceremony and its purpose Guided meditations and time for questions
