The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is pleased to announce that the annual Dockside Family Festival will take place on Saturday, September 12th
at Captree State Park from 11:00AM to 5:00PM, with a rain date scheduled for Sunday, September 13th, 11:00AM to 5:00PM.
This festival offers fun for the entire family! Activities include interactive pirate shows, Little Mermaid meet and greets, RC car racing, pony rides, magic shows, boat rides and much more! Local nonprofits, craft and food vendors will be on-site throughout the entire festival. All activities are FREE with an $8.00 vehicle use fee in effect.If you are interested in participating as a local craft vendor, please email LIParksRecreation@parks.ny.gov&nbsp;or call the Recreation Department at 631.321.3510 and ask for an application. Application fee is $50.00 to reserve a 10x10 space, first-come, first-serve basis.&nbsp;
This event is presented by Newsday and sponsored by Connoisseur Media Long Island, Tiki Joe’s at Captree, Captree Bait and Tackle, Renewal by Andersen of Long Island, Sunrun, New York Life, and the Natural Heritage Trust.

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is pleased to announce that the Long Island State Park Region will be participating in the 37th Annual International Coastal Clean-up at several park locations. The International Coastal Cleanup is a global effort, under the international umbrella of Ocean Conservancy, in which over 100 countries participate. Every year, under the Littoral Society’s leadership, thousands of volunteers clean hundreds of miles of shoreline along the New York State beaches.
If you would like to be involved in helping clean up your seashore, become a VOLUNTEER by calling the park that you are interested in lending a helping hand. Giveaways and certificates will be provided to each participant. This event is free to the public.

Montauk Point State Park

Attention all anglers! The 2026 Fred Golofaro Memorial Montauk Classic Bluefish &amp; Striped Bass Surf Fishing Tournament will begin at Noon, Friday, October 2, 2026, and continue until Noon, Sunday, October 4, 2026. Fish must be landed from the beach, surf, jetty, bank or pier beginning at the western most tip of Napeague State Park and encompassing all points east. All areas must be accessible on foot or by wading. Swimming is prohibited. 
Prizes will be awarded to the three largest bluefish and the three longest released striped bass. New York State minimum qualifying weight and size limits will be in effect. Only one prize per person, per species, will be awarded. A drawing for raffle prizes will be held at the award ceremony on Sunday at 12:30pm at the lower lot of Montauk Point State Park. You must be present to win. The entry fee is $20 per angler. Please make checks or money orders payable to NHT-LI. Credit Cards will be accepted for online registration only.&nbsp;

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation is pleased to announce the 2026 Pitch &amp; Putt Tournament at Robert Moses State Park. This outing is open to the first 72 registrants who will tee off at 10:00AM on Sunday, October 4, 2026, at the Robert Moses Pitch &amp; Putt Golf Course. A rain date for the event is scheduled for Sunday October 11, 2026. 
Prizes and awards will be given for team low gross, men’s and women’s individual low score and closet to the pin. The entry fee is $40.00 per person or $160.00 per foursome. This fee entitles the participant to a continental breakfast, lunch, awards &amp; a giveaway. Application deadline is September 25, 2026.

The Jay Medal for Service was created in 2012 to recognize individuals who demonstrate a selfless spirit of commitment to and engagement with their community mirroring the multifaceted contributions of John Jay and his descendants. These honorees have demonstrated through their life's work that our shared narratives as a country, complicated as they are, can be better illuminated through the highest caliber of ongoing scholarship and advocacy. Honorees are selected for their excellence in the fields of American history, environmental stewardship, social justice or civic engagement.
Joining the celebration will be Chief Judge of the State of New York and the New York Court of Appeals, Honorable Rowan D. Wilson and historian and philanthropist Elihu Rose who will present the awards at JHC's annual Soirée. Special guests will include David Blight, Frank Cogliano, Joanne Freeman, and Beverly Gage.
