Kanette spent 2.5 years in Tanzania, East Africa living and working as the Communications Officer for a global volunteering organization with projects in 30 destinations all over the world. During her time abroad, she coordinated international volunteers for the NGO’s Journalism Project providing services in writing, photography, and video. Her photos and volunteer stories have been published in media throughout Europe, Asia, Australia, the US and Canada. Kanette earned a Certificate in African Studies from the PIER African Studies Institute at Yale University in 2008. She currently works for an international nonprofit organization in Metro Detroit as a member of the Chapter Relations department, a role that affords her the opportunity to liaise with representatives from its 100 domestic and international chapters.
