Keeper for a Day: Reptiles and Amphibians
Zoo Atlanta is home to a diversity of species of reptiles and amphibians from around the globe. 
From some of the smallest frogs to the most endangered lizards, join the Herpetology Care Team and immerse yourself in the science behind caring for reptiles and amphibians behind-the-scenes at Scaly Slimy Spectacular!
Learn firsthand the level of care that is required to care for these unique and important species. Participants can expect to meet members of the Animal Care Team, meet an animal, learn about our positive reinforcement training and enrichment programs, and walk away with knowledge of how to save species. All participation in Keeper for a Day programs is voluntary for the animals. If you love these scaly and slimy creatures, this program is just for you! 
Before registering, please understand that during this program: 
<ul>
 <li>Participants will perform similar tasks as members of the Herpetology Care Team, which may include raking, sweeping, hosing, scrubbing, and shoveling, and should expect to do some hard work and be comfortable getting dirty. </li>
 <li>Participants will be expected to participate in all weather conditions, lift up to 30 pounds, and be on their feet for up to four hours. </li>
 <li>Participants must have the physical ability to bend, lift, stoop, kneel, and stand for extended periods of time. </li>
 <li>Participants may be exposed to potential allergens such as insects, hay, animal waste, and other potential allergens. Please reach out in advance if you have any questions or concerns.</li>

Adventure Cubs presented by Carter’s Charitable Foundation
is for toddlers and their favorite grownups for a morning of exploration,
learning and fun!
Embark on a new journey each month with a Zoo Educator as
families get to learn and play together.
Engaging activities will get you and your little one moving
and creating. Each month, young explorers will learn about a new animal through
a game, craft, story, and singalong. At the end of the program, participants
will visit the animal of the month’s habitat to make observations and draw
connections to the lesson. You and your family will then receive a themed
scavenger hunt to do in the Zoo on your own. This is a great opportunity to
make friends and spend time with your little explorers as they discover new
skills and learn about wildlife.
All topics and activities are designed for children ages
2-5, with opportunities for exploration for ages 0-2. During the winter months,
this program will be held indoors.

THEMES:
Each month, a new adventure awaits with new animals to
observe. Adventure Cubs will explore a new region of the world to investigate
the animals and environments there! The purpose of each program is to expose
young children to the diversity of animals around the world and to draw
connections to the ways we are similar and different. For each adventure they
go on, Adventure Cubs will engage in an activity, read a story, and create a
take-away memory.

Join us as we explore the world of the positively enormous animals that roam the African Savanna, including rhinos, elephants, giraffes, and ostriches! What adaptations set these animals apart? Join us as we answer this question and learn more about the role humans have in protecting our gigantic animal friends! </li>
 <li>June 27: Radical Reptiles – Explore the scaly and often slithery world of reptiles! Discover the amazing senses and defenses of animals such as snakes, lizards, and turtles. Young explorers will learn how humans can help our not-so-furry friends and develop respect and appreciation for reptiles. </li>
 <li>July 25: Small But Mighty – Join us for a special night where the tables are turned – instead of young explorers seeing animals in their habitats, animals are coming to see us in our Conservation Action Resource Center (ARC)! Meet our smallest Ambassador Animals with the biggest personalities and learn what makes them special as individuals and as species. Explore the human-animal connection through activities designed to engage young explorers in thinking about how humans can show care for the small animals that share our planet. </li>
 <li>August 8: Curious Cats – Embark on a wild adventure to the world of lions, tigers, and leopards! Young explorers will engage in activities to learn about the fantastic feline adaptations that help these animals hunt, hide, and survive. Join us in discovering the superpowers of cats! </li>
 <li>August 22: Savanna Giants – Giants are among us! Summer Safari Camp at Zoo Atlanta
Join us for an exploration of all things WILD! 
Safari Camp at Zoo Atlanta offers a memorable adventure for campers ages 5-14 while fostering a deeper connection to animals and inspiring conservation action.
From Zoo explorations and group games to inquiry-based scientific investigations and projects, young explorers will be immersed in hands-on, minds-on learning while having fun. Experience a summer of excitement and discovery at Zoo Atlanta’s Summer Safari Camp! Select an individual week that fits in your summer plans, or spend the entire summer with us. 
Summer Camp dates: Weekly, May 26 - July 31, 2026
Time: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. 
Extended care available for an additional cost per week from 8 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. – 5 p.m. 
THEMES:
Each week campers embark on a different Zoo expedition, exploring wildlife and wild places. From Marvelous Mammals to Brilliant Biomes, participants will be engaged in learning about how to make a positive difference for animals! 
What You Need To Know:
Safari Camp is a great opportunity to engage young explorers in learning about the wild world around them and beginning their journey of conservation stewardship. Through Zoo explorations, up-close animal encounters, STEAM-based projects, hands-on science activities, environmental games and more, campers learn about attainable strategies and goals to combat environmental issues and are charged with finding simple ways that they can make a difference.
While Zoo Atlanta is a great place to discover nature and wildlife, it is also important that campers have a chance to experience wildlife in a more natural setting. Campers and their Educators may travel out to Grant Park (which surrounds the Zoo) to participate in a variety of activities such as nature walks, environmental research, and group team-building games.

Age Ranges:
JUNIOR RANGERS (Ages 5-7): 
Our youngest campers will learn about wildlife and wild places in a way that is experiential and collaborative. Throughout each week, Junior Ranger campers will:
<ul><li>Explore the Zoo</li><li>Participate in hands-on activities to support the weekly themes</li><li>Connect with their fellow campers and Camp Educator</li><li>Meet some of our amazing Ambassador Animals</li><li>Engage in a project that they can share with the rest of Camp at the end of each session!</li></ul>
TREK (Ages 8-11): 
Young explorers will expand their learning about wildlife and conservation to new levels! Trek campers will engage with Zoo Atlanta by:
<ul><li>Exploring the Zoo grounds, including behind-the-scenes areas</li><li>Participating in interactive activities that connect them to conservation and ecological principles</li><li>Collaborating with their Camp Educator and fellow campers to dive more deeply into the vital work Zoo Atlanta does to protect wildlife and wild places</li></ul>
QUEST (Ages 12-14): 
At the apex of Zoo Atlanta’s Camp programming, Quest campers will further inspire their passion for wildlife conservation by joining us for an exciting week of exploring what providing exceptional animal care looks like in an AZA-accredited facility. Throughout the summer, Quest campers will:
<ul><li>Engage with a variety of Zoo team members to learn how we provide exceptional care to over 200 species of animals, including invertebrates, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals from a wide range of ecosystems. </li><li>Explore animal care spaces and learn how our care teams adjust for changes in animal abilities and behaviors over time. </li><li>Gain insights into meeting the mental and physical needs of individual animals and discover how to design and maintain habitats. </li><li>Meet with a unique Zoo team each week and engage in experiences and activities tailored to that care team. </li><li>Deepen their knowledge of Zoo Atlanta’s commitment to protect wildlife and their habitats in the wild through conservation projects and partnerships.</li></ul>

Trainer for a Day: World of Wild Theater
Imagine running a show when all of your stars are birds!
Become a Trainer for a Day at the World of Wild Theater presented by Georgia Natural Gas, and see firsthand how training is used to care for and connect guests to the birds while participating in the Fantastic Flights presentation!
Work alongside the Ambassador Animals Team to experience how these feathered friends showcase their unique adaptations in these presentations and learn about the positive reinforcement training that ensures that all of the birds are participating voluntarily. This behind-the-scenes look at Fantastic Flights and its amazing participants will give you a greater appreciation for the term “bird brain” and the important relationships between the birds and their care team. Participants can expect to meet members of the Animal Care Team, meet an animal, learn about our positive reinforcement training and enrichment programs, and walk away with knowledge of how to save species. It’s time to show off your flamazingness at Zoo Atlanta’s Pride Night!
On Saturday, June 20 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., the Zoo will come alive with a special atmosphere designed for our adult guests. Enjoy exclusive after-hours access to the Zoo grounds, breathtaking animal views, lively entertainment throughout the Zoo, engaging animal talks, and a variety of experiences all tailored for a night of community and celebration!
As a special bonus, event ticket holders can enter at 4:30 p.m. to enjoy the Zoo while it is still open to the general public, giving you a chance to see your favorite animals before the main event starts.

We welcome you to the wild world of warthogs! Come explore what it takes to care for these charismatic creatures and their neighbors in the African Savanna. 
Do warthogs really have warts? Get an up-close look and see! Join us for a behind-the-scenes look at Zoo Atlanta’s African Savanna and give the warthogs a favorite treat. You’ll also meet members of the Zoo’s Animal Care Team and find out what goes into the care of warthogs and other savanna animals.

 <li>Meet outside the warthog habitat near the SweetWater Beer Garden 15 minutes (at 12:45) before the Wild Encounter to check in.</li>

During this Wild Encounter experience, you will learn about elephants with a Zoo Educator before heading behind the scenes to meet up with members of the Elephant Care Team and find out more about elephant care at the Zoo. Of course, no Elephant Wild Encounter would be complete without the opportunity to hand-feed one of the “girls” an afternoon snack.

Petting Zoo Painters Wild Encounter
Join the Animal Care Team and one of our talented animal artists, meeting either the Zoo’s “VanGoat” or “Baaahlo,” and take home a unique work of art in this unforgettable experience.
Learn about the positive reinforcement training process of becoming an animal artist. See firsthand the ways this enrichment activity fits into high standards of care for animals at the Zoo when you meet a goat or sheep and see their art creation in action. Please note that we cannot guarantee a specific animal for your program.

Beat the crowds and start your day with a wild hello! 
Before the Zoo officially opens, enjoy exclusive access to select public viewing areas and the opportunity to observe your favorite animals as they begin their day. 

Join us for this crowd-free adventure you can’t get any other time.

 <li>Join a knowledgeable Interpretive Guide for this 60-minute experience. </li>
 <li>Get a glimpse into the morning happenings at the Zoo. </li>
 <li>Enjoy a guided tour on the public side of the spotlighted animal area. </li>
 <li>Learn about the spotlighted species and their care through observation, biofacts, and Q&amp;A with the Interpretive Guide. </li>
 <li>Cost includes admission to stay and enjoy the Zoo after the program ends.</li>
