Lukas Udstuen, Neighbor

Although Lukas is a Minnesota native,<br> his passion for journalism drew him southward to study at the University of Missouri.<br> After living there for almost two years, he will spend this summer in Minnesota<br> to continue to sharpen his skills in the Twin Cities.<br> <br> Lukas looks for ways stories can drive the type of media in which they’re told.<br> He believes the best lessons in modern journalism can still come from<br> what we learn from generations before us. <br> <br> He is an undergraduate student at the University of Missouri majoring in <br> Convergence Journalism with an emphasis in Broadcast and Spanish. <br> <br> He has reported thoroughly on disparities in retention rates among racial minorities at <br> the University of Missouri. His reporting found though MU had touted its incoming freshmen class<br> as the most diverse ever, retention rates among minority students continued to lag. <br> <br> In his first year of study at Mizzou, he not only wrote more than 40 newspaper articles,<br> but also reported for 18 podcasts and created various other multimedia works.<br> <br> In addition to his text and multimedia experience from The Maneater, MU’s student newspaper,<br> he also has worked at KOMU TV-8, an NBC affiliate in Columbia, Mo. Here, he exercised proficiency with<br> Avid Newscutter software in a professional newsroom environment. He also has on-air experience hosting one minute<br> news segments which air intermittently between NBC’s TODAY Show.<br> <br> He will graduate in the spring of 2013.
