Celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Half-Earth project at this inspiring day of conservation and advocacy. Hosted by the E.O. Wilson Biodiversity Foundation in partnership with Harvard University, this Half-Earth Day event honors a legacy of hope for the planet's biodiversity. The day moves between science, art, and testimony: wild places brought to life through film and photography, Indigenous voices renewing our relationship to land, a tribute to E.O. Wilson through the people who knew him best, poetry and music that carry what data alone cannot. Scholar, writer, and artist Adrienne Keene (Cherokee Nation) guides guests through it all as emcee.
The program includes a land acknowledgment and performances by Larry Spotted Crow Mann (Hassanamisco Nipmuc Nation) · live photography and film by Florian Schulz · a tribute to E.O. Wilson in his own words · a session on the resilience of New England's forests with Sherri Mitchell (Penobscot Nation) and the Harvard Forest · a keynote on the Endangered Species Act with a performance by Julian NoiseCat · and the presentation of the E.O. Wilson Legacy Award for Transformative Conservation Leadership to the Gorongosa Restoration Project. Sponsoring a day of free admission at the Harvard Museum of Natural History and the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology.

21st Annual HONK! Festival of Activist Street
Bands; this year's on-site U.S. bands total 35, plus
on-site video livestream participation from several international bands;
w/plenty of ways for audience participation.

The HONK! Festival was catapulted
into existence right here in the Somerville-area in 2006, initially with 3
local bands, 8 from across the U.S., and 1 travelling in from Vancouver. And
yes, HONK! has grown. There are now over 20 independent HONK!s (plus related
activist street band gatherings) operating around the world. With 35 U.S. bands
participating on-site specifically in Somerville/Cambridge this October. Let's
just say, there is a reason for that phenomenon! With the local Festival still
under the ongoing coordination of HONK!'s founding band, the Good Trouble Brass
Band (fka Second Line Social Aid & Pleasure Society Brass Band).

The 2026 list of HONK! on-site band

The Phantom of the Opera — Live in Concert
Experience the legendary 1925 silent film The Phantom of the Opera on the big screen, accompanied live by the New England Film Orchestra, conducted by Gina Naggar, performing Carl Davis’s acclaimed symphonic orchestral score.
Starring Lon Chaney in his iconic portrayal of the Phantom, Rupert Julian’s film was the first major screen adaptation of Gaston Leroux’s 1910 novel and remains one of the defining works of silent cinema.
Davis’s score draws heavily on Gounod’s Faust — the opera at the center of the film’s Paris Opera House setting — while creating a haunting musical identity for the Phantom himself. As Davis described it: “horror, pure horror.” Performed live alongside the film, the score heightens its romance, spectacle, suspense, and terror, transforming this silent masterpiece into an immersive concert-cinema experience.
Beneath the grandeur of the Paris Opera House lives a mysterious masked figure who has become obsessed with young singer Christine Daaé. When Christine discovers the truth behind the voice guiding her career, she is drawn into the Phantom’s hidden world beneath the theater, setting in motion a gothic tale of obsession, jealousy, and forbidden love.
A cinematic classic. A live orchestra. An unforgettable night at the movies.
