Low back pain is one of the most common issues runners experience, often stemming from a combination of spinal stress and inefficient running mechanics. In this educational workshop, Physical Therapist and Running Technique Specialist, Denise Smith from Smith Physical Therapy+&nbsp; and Dr. Thomas Dace from Precise Chiropractic, will team up to provide runners with a comprehensive understanding of how disc health and running technique are connected.
Denise will focus on running mechanics, sharing technique adjustments that reduce spinal stress and improve running efficiency, while Dr. Dace will provide the spinal health perspective, discussing approaches such as spinal decompression and other methods to support disc health and relieve pain. Smith Physical Therapy + Crystal Lake

Balance Strong is a small-group, guided exercise class specifically designed for individuals who want to improve stability, confidence, and overall strength in daily movement. Whether you’ve experienced unsteadiness, have a history of falls, or simply want to feel more secure on your feet, this class focuses on practical, functional exercises that translate directly into real-life activities like walking, climbing stairs, turning, and reaching.
This class takes place in the Balance Center at Smith Physical Therapy+ and is led by Jennifer Myatt. Participants will work through progressive balance, strength, and coordination activities using targeted techniques. The program also emphasizes posture, gait mechanics, and strategies to prevent falls, helping you move with greater control and independence.
The class meets once a week on Wednesdays, from 1-2pm for 6 weeks. Class Dates: 5/13, 5/20, 5/27, 6/3, 6/10, 6/17

Zephyrs Summer Running Program is a summer training program designed for middle school runners who want to prepare for the upcoming fall cross country season. The program meets three mornings per week over the course of nine weeks and focuses on building fitness, confidence, and a love for running.
Education is a key component of the program. Athletes will learn proper running technique, strength and speed development, injury prevention, teamwork, and other skills that support long-term success in the sport.
The program is led by Coach Megan of Sloan Coaching, who provides expert guidance in a fun, supportive team environment.
The program runs Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 7:30-9:00am starting Monday, June 8th through Friday, August 7th. Registration is now open for the <a href="https://raceroster.com/events/2026/113712/crystal-lake-aquathon-2026" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">9th Annual Crystal Lake Aquathon</a>, taking place Sunday, July 19 at Three Oaks Recreation Area. Hosted by <a href="https://smithptplus.com/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Smith Physical Therapy+</a>, this unique event is one of the only Aquathon in Illinois and offers a challenging yet accessible race experience for athletes of all levels. All proceeds from the event benefit <a href="https://www.gotrnwil.org/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Girls on the Run of Northwest Illinois</a>, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering young girls through mentorship, physical activity, and confidence-building programs.
Participants will swim a scenic quarry loop around three islands before transitioning to a run course featuring a mix of trails, sand, and pavement, all set within the beautiful Three Oaks Recreation Area.

Calling all grade schoolers! If you know a kiddo who enjoys running or is just looking for a fun summer adventure, Kids Run This Town, is a one-month program that gets kids moving, learning, and having a blast before school starts. The program runs throughout August and includes two guided running sessions with Coach Megan of Sloan Coaching, to master running tips and tricks.
Over the month, participants will complete 12 miles with a running buddy (mom, dad, sibling, friend or neighbor) building confidence and stamina. Then, at the Crystal Lake Half Marathon (September 6th), they’ll run their 13th mile, joining the half marathoners to cross the finish line and earn their very own half marathon medal!

Enjoy the sites of Crystal Lake Illinois with the start at iconic Crystal Lake Main Beach, a loop around Lippold Park, a view of the Dole Mansion, a jaunt down the Prairie Path, and finish up in downtown Crystal Lake. This point to point venue will bus runners to the START with an easy 5 minute bus ride. Inside building and beach side warm up areas are available no matter what the weather will bring. Every 1 1/2 mile are water stations.&nbsp;Food, Beverages, Awards at the after race party (location TBD).
