Saturday, July 25, 2026&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;10:00AM - 12:00PM EDTJoin us for a guided 2.5‑mile hike through the beautiful 159-acre Mount Nebo Regional Park, a ridge‑top preserve nestled between the Shawnee and Marshalls creeks. This route includes both the short inner loop and the longer 2‑mile outer loop marked with yellow blazes. Along the way, we’ll pass a serene pond nestled in a rocky basin, relax at benches offering peaceful rest stops, and enjoy several scenic viewpoints.The trails are generally level, with the exception of one short but steep incline leading up to the inner loop. Portions of the hike pass near private residences—please respect their property as you enjoy the trail.

 <li>Please bring water, snacks, insect repellant, and dress in layers for the weather. Wear comfortable shoes—trail conditions may be wet—and apply sunscreen. Hiking poles are optional; Wildlands will have a limited number available to borrow.</li>

Directions
From I‑80, take Exit 309 for US‑209 N/PA‑447 toward Marshalls Creek for 0.5 miles. Continue onto PA‑447 N/US‑209 N for 1.2 miles. At the circle, stay on US‑209 N. At the traffic light with Buttermilk Falls Rd, turn right. After 0.4 miles, turn left onto Mt. Nebo Rd and continue for 1.9 scenic miles. Look for the Mount Nebo Regional Park sign on your left. Turn in and park in the spacious lot, where you’ll also find picnic tables and a trail map.

Wildlands Conservancy’s Summer Camp offers summer fun at our Dorothy Rider Pool Wildlife Sanctuary in Emmaus, PA. Located in the Lehigh Valley, Dorothy Rider Pool Wildlife Sanctuary is generally a convenient 10-15 minutes from Allentown and Macungie, 25 minutes from Bethlehem, as well as 30 minutes from Easton.
Choose among 11 weeks of summer fun, from June 8 through August 21. Each child-adult team will embark on a shared experience designed to nurture early learning skills and foster a love for nature. Please note that registration is required only for the participating children, however each child must be accompanied by an adult. 

This month:&nbsp;&nbsp;Dive into the wonders of Catasauqua Creek and become a Creek Explorer! 
Discover the fascinating world of aquatic life as you learn how to collect and observe the tiny creatures that call the Catasauqua creek home. This hands-on adventure is perfect for those who want to explore nature up close. Wade into the water (with closed-toe shoes!) and uncover the hidden ecosystem beneath the surface, all while gaining a deeper understanding of the importance of clean water and healthy habitats.

After the presentation, enjoy a guided hike through Louise Moore Park, where we’ll explore native wildflowers, observe pollinator habitats, and look for wildlife in their natural environment while discussing conservation efforts and seasonal blooms. All ages welcome!

Join Michael Hock, Senior Manager of Preserved Lands, for a guided walk at Wildlands Conservancy’s Black River Sanctuary focused on identifying native and invasive plant species. Learn how these plants impact local ecosystems and get an inside look at Wildlands’ ongoing conservation efforts at the preserve. 
 
Participants will also take part in light, hands‑on invasive species management along the trail to support habitat restoration. Please bring gloves and be prepared to get a little dirty. 
 
Perfect for nature lovers, curious beginners, and anyone interested in conservation and stewardship. All ages welcome!

Explore a Northampton County park in a whole new way by snorkeling beneath the surface of the Lehigh River! This guided river experience invites participants to discover the hidden world of macroinvertebrates, fish, and aquatic habitats while learning what these organisms reveal about water quality and river health. 
 
Participants may spot schools of fish, sunfish turning red as they guard their nests, and even trout zipping by in the current. Using provided snorkeling gear, we’ll get an up‑close look at river life and discuss how aquatic insects and other macroinvertebrates serve as indicators of a healthy ecosystem. 
 
All snorkeling equipment is provided, and personal flotation devices (PFDs) are required and provided. If water levels or conditions are too high for safe snorkeling, the program will transition to a hands‑on, land‑based water quality study, ensuring a meaningful experience in all conditions.&nbsp; This program is best suited for ages 10 and up.

Step into the darkness and discover a hidden world that glows! Join us for an easy 1-2‑mile guided night hike as we search for bioluminescent and fluorescent critters that come alive after sunset. Using black lights provided by Wildlands Conservancy, we’ll explore the forest to reveal insects, fungi, and other organisms that glow in surprising and beautiful ways. 
 
Along the way, we’ll learn what bioluminescence and fluorescence are, why certain species glow, and how these adaptations help them survive in the night. This program offers a fun blend of science, exploration, and wonder for curious nature lovers.&nbsp; &nbsp;All ages welcome. 
 
What to expect:

Each child-adult team will embark on a shared experience designed to nurture early learning skills and foster a love for nature. Please note that registration is required only for the participating children, however each child must be accompanied by an adult.

This month: Dig into a big adventure with Little Excavators! 
Join Munch the Turtle on an exciting archaeological dig where kids and their caregivers become detectives of the past. Unearth hidden treasures, solve mysteries, and enjoy captivating stories that bring history to life. This hands-on, outdoor adventure promises plenty of dirt-digging, storytelling, and laughter-filled fun! Little Excavators is the perfect way to spark your child’s curiosity, imagination, and love for the outdoors.

Friday, August 28, 2026&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; 9:00AM - 11:00AM EDTJoin Wildlands Conservancy for a special morning at our Thomas Darling Preserve, a critical habitat for a rich variety of breeding birds.Led in partnership with Brandon Swayser from the Da Vinci Science Center, this immersive program offers a rare opportunity to observe how researchers study and care for wild birds, providing insights into monitoring bird populations, tracking migration, and supporting conservation efforts. 
What to Expect:
Guided Birding Hike 
Enjoy a relaxed hike through this ecologically rich preserve, with binoculars provided if you don’t have your own. Discover how Wildlands’ habitat restoration efforts—like forest thinning and native plant regeneration—are helping to create ideal nesting conditions for golden-winged warblers and other species in decline. 
 
Possible Up-Close Encounter with Wild Birds 
This unique experience offers an intimate glimpse into the science behind bird conservation and can help deepen your connection to these incredible creatures. 
Please Note: 

·There are no restrooms on site at Thomas Darling Preserve. The closest accessible restroom is at the Wawa, located about one mile away on Route 115.
·This program is best suited for ages 10 and up
·Trail conditions: Trails may be rocky, wet, muddy, and buggy, so please come prepared with appropriate footwear, bug spray, and anything else you might need to stay comfortable.
·Parking: Park in the lot across from 606 PA-940 Pocono Lake, Pa 18347.
