Moundville Archaeological Park

<p>On <strong>Saturday, June 13, 2026</strong>, visitors are invited to create your own necklace inspired by Moundville’s traditions! Join two site archaeologists and skilled craftsperson Bill Skinner to learn about personal adornment and trade&nbsp;at&nbsp;Moundville while making a&nbsp;catlinite&nbsp;bead or cowrie shell necklace to take home. A variety of beads and cordage options will be available. Catlinite&nbsp;bead necklaces are limited to the first 25 adults.</p>
<p><strong>Drop&nbsp;in&nbsp;anytime between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.</strong></p>
<p><strong>Moundville residents&nbsp;must&nbsp;pay admission during this time to&nbsp;participate&nbsp;in this event.&nbsp;&nbsp;</strong></p>

<p>Moundville Archaeological Park invites visitors to join us on <strong>June 17, 2026 from 9:15 a.m. – 9:45 a.m.</strong> for a special outdoor storytime featuring “We Are Grateful” by Cherokee author Traci Sorell. This seasonal story introduces the Cherokee concept of otsaliheliga—a word expressing gratitude throughout the year.</p>
<p>After the reading by Moundville Archaeological Park’s Erinn Townsend, children will learn about the Eastern Agricultural Complex and the importance of crops like sunflower. Each participant will decorate their own flower pot and plant a sunflower seed to take home and grow.</p>

Moundville for Minis: “We Are Grateful: Otsaliheliga”

<p>On <strong>June 24, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.</strong>, Moundville Archaeological Park invites visitors to start your day with refreshing movement and stretching on the Moundville lawn! This all-levels outdoor class, led by a local instructor, blends gentle flow Pilates with the beauty of nature. Bring a yoga mat or towel and join us for a mindful session. Light refreshments will be provided. Free with admission. Instructor Dominique Bodoh is a PhD student in anthropology at The University of Alabama and a citizen of the Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin.</p>
