The Senior Suburban Orchestra (SSO) is a 50-piece orchestra drawing musicians from more than 20 western suburbs and outlying areas. The musicians have from 3 to 70+ years of experience playing their instruments. There is no age requirement. Most members, though not all, are seniors.

SSO was launched in September 2000, and is currently based at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Downers Grove.

Weekly rehearsals are held on Tuesday afternoons, and up to 20 weekday concerts per season are scheduled from September through May.

The musicians play for the love of playing, pay no dues and sell no tickets. Auditions are not required.

Audience members are admitted without charge. Concerts are underwritten by fees charged to hosting facilities and through donations and grants.
