In celebration of America's 250th anniversary, the Great Neck Library will be livestreaming a discussion hosted by The New York Historical, featuring Ken Burns and moderated by David M. Rubenstein as they discuss the film, The American Revolution, co-directed with Sarah Botstein and David Schmidt. 
The film examines how America’s founding turned the world upside-down. Thirteen British colonies on the Atlantic Coast rose in rebellion, won their independence, and established a new form of government that radically reshaped the continent and inspired centuries of democratic movements around the globe. An expansive look at the virtues and contradictions of the war and the birth of the United States of America, the film follows dozens of figures from a wide variety of backgrounds: the rank-and-file Continental soldiers and American militiamen (some of them teenagers), Patriot political and military leaders, British Army officers, American Loyalists, Native soldiers and civilians, enslaved and free African Americans, German soldiers in the British service, French and Spanish allies, and various civilians living in North America, Loyalist as well as Patriot, including many made refugees by the war.
The American Revolution was a war for independence, a civil war, and a world war. It impacted millions – from Canada to the Caribbean and beyond. Few escaped its violence. At one time or another, the British Army occupied all the major population centers in the United States – including New York City for more than seven years.
Ken Burns is an award-winning filmmaker and producer, whose documentary series include Baseball, The Civil War, and his most recent, The American Revolution.
David M. Rubenstein (moderator), co-founder and co-chairman of the Carlyle Group, is the host of History with David Rubenstein on PBS, and the author of The Highest Calling: Conversations on the American Presidency, among other books.

This summer we’ll be unearthing a story! Join us for our 2026 Summer Challenge Kickoff on June 26th, at 11 AM, we’ll have a wonderful concert for little ones from Songs for Seeds! Songs for Seeds concerts bring the joyful, high-energy magic of our classes straight to your celebration. Our interactive live performances are designed to feel effortless for parents and pure fun for kids. Registration for this event is requested, but not required. 





Song and seeds performers are teachers and musicians who guide children on an immersive musical adventure packed with interactive, educational fun! Your little ones will explore global songs and languages, paint and spots shapes during nursery rhyme sing-alongs, and learn numbers through captivating magic tricks. Plus, they will master animal names and sounds with an exciting matching game.
Join us for this exciting musical performance at the Great Neck Library! The concert takes place on Friday, June 26, from 11:00 to 11:45 a.m. at our 159 Bayview Avenue location.
Don’t forget to sign up for the 2026 Children’s Summer Reading Challenge at any of our Great Neck library branches! Participants are qualified for various prizes and raffle drawings. Great Neck Library 2026 Children’s Summer Reading Challenge Kickoff: Songs for Seeds Concert 

Join us for our 2026 Summer Challenge Kickoff on June 26, starting at 2 pm with our Prehistoric Market Fair. This family-friendly event invites children to rotate through various hands-on stations focused on archaeology, paleontology, dinosaurs, and gardening. The celebration continues at 4:00 PM with our monthly Pokémon Club meeting, which will wrap up the day's events with a variety of Ground-type Pokémon-themed activities.

Be sure to take a moment to sign up for the Annual Reading Challenge at any of our Great Neck Library branches. Your participation throughout the summer qualifies you for various prizes and raffle entries. We encourage you to visit us weekly to collect your rewards and increase your chances of winning the grand finale raffle.

The Great Neck Library invites you to a poetry reading presented by the Performance Poets Association on Saturday, June 27, at 1:00 p.m. It will take place at the Main Branch located at 159 Bayview Avenue. The event features guest poets Lorraine Collin and Doreen Deutch Spungin. Attendees are also welcome to sign up for the open mic session during the meetup.
