Parents and teens in grades 6 through 12 are invited to explore the legal field firsthand from three prominent attorneys from the Nassau County Bar Association: Ingrid J. Villagran, Ciara J. Villalona-Lockhart, and Adam Zabary. This event offers an insider’s look at the daily realities, challenges, and rewards of the legal field, giving you a unique opportunity to explore various legal paths firsthand. 

Ciara J. Villalona-Lockhart, Esq., received her B.A. in Politics and Religious Studies, cum laude, from New York University in May 2019 and earned her J.D. from St. John's University School of Law in May 2022. Her practice centers on advising school districts on general and labor matters, including employee and student investigations involving alleged conduct of discrimination and harassment, particularly those arising under Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972. She advised colleges and universities on state and federal regulatory compliance, accreditation, and governance matters. She also evaluated strategic transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, and partnerships, for financially distressed institutions. 

Adam Zabary, Esq., earned his Juris Doctor from Hofstra University School of Law. He specializes in landlord-tenant disputes and general commercial litigation, with additional expertise handling civil matters, personal injury, medical malpractice, matrimonial law, and trust and estate litigation. Adam represents clients across Nassau, Suffolk, and all five New York City boroughs, including at the appellate level. Known for his deep legal knowledge and pragmatic approach to dispute resolution, Adam recently successfully argued a rare late notice of claim against a municipality during the COVID-19 era, a victory featured in the New York Law Journal. He is also an instructor at the Continuing Legal Education (CLE) for the Nassau County Bar Association and Queens County Women’s Bar Association, teaching on evolving landlord-tenant laws, post-pandemic leasing strategies, and municipal claims.

 Ingrid J. Villagran, Esq., is a graduate of the Gonzaga University School of Law. She specializes in immigration and family law. Additionally, she serves as the Deputy Administrator of the Nassau County Bar Association Assigned Counsel Defender Plan, Inc.

Guardians of the Panels: Golden/Silver Age Comic Book Preservation & History at GN Library

The Great Neck Library is hosting three donation drives this October as part of <a href="https://thegreatgiveback.org/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">The Great Give Back</a>, a statewide community service initiative created by the Suffolk County Public Library Directors Association and the Suffolk Cooperative Library System, in conjunction with the Nassau Library System. The mission of The Great Give Back is to provide a day of opportunities for the patrons of the Public Libraries of New York State to participate in meaningful, service-oriented experiences. Donations are accepted at all four of our Great Neck library locations.

Feminine Hygiene Drive
Community members are invited to drop off donations of feminine hygiene products at any of our four Library locations. At the end of the month, teen volunteers will assemble these items into kits, which will be distributed across various service points within the library system for anyone in need. We are currently accepting sanitary pads, liners, tampons, menstrual cups, and discs.

Diaper and Wipe Drive
Support Long Island families this October! Bring your extra diapers and baby wipes to any of our four branches. As port of our Great Give Back programming, all donations will be given to the Allied Foundation to Help local parents in need.

The Great Give Back is a community service initiative that provides volunteering and service-oriented opportunities for public library patrons across New York State. It was originated by the Suffolk County Public Library Directors Association and the Suffolk Cooperative Library System, working alongside that Nassau Library System. The mission is to give library patrons of all ages a chance to participate in meaningful, structured activities that directly support their local communities.

“Echoes of Sharing”: An Art Exhibition by the Nanum Cultural Center at Great Neck Library

We invite people of all ages to come to a captivating experience of traditional Japanese music, accompanied by dance, tea ceremony, kimono culture, and time-honored crafts. Through these rich cultural elements, you will feel as if you are journeying through Japan itself. At the finale of the performance, guests are invited to join in the music, creating a memorable moment of unity throughout the venue. Masayo Ishigure is a Koto and Shamisen player based in New York. She began playing the koto and jiuta shamisen at the age of five in Gifu, Japan, and has built an extensive, multi-faceted career that continues to push the koto’s limits while maintaining a strong grasp of the tradition. After initial studies with Tadao and Kazue Sawai, Masayo became a special research student at the Sawai Koto Academy of Music in 1986. The academy draws on influences from classical to jazz and aims to change the perception of the koto from a traditional Japanese instrument to one of universal expressiveness. The Jay Heritage Center (JHC) is proud to welcome educators and the general public to our site during September 2026, Constitution Month, to commemorate our nation’s journey towards independence and democracy. The free program is co-sponsored by the Mid-Hudson Social Studies Council. The event will be the first of many lively conversation about America at 250 with some of our country’s leading history scholars. It is open to teachers throughout the Mid Hudson and Sound Shore communities as well as Fairfield County.
Professors David Blight, Frank Cogliano, Joanne Freeman and Beverly Gage will take the stage at the new Wachenheim Center to examine the history of the nation-state and the contested nature of American national identity. The panel will discuss what the United States and the Constitution have meant to citizens over time and how that vision has changed or stayed constant. &nbsp;The event is FREE but registration is required.
