The NYS DMV's mobile unit will be processing applications for REAL ID at the Great Neck Library, 159 Bayview Avenue, Great Neck, on Sunday, April 26, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. No appointment necessary, first come first served. Be sure to bring proof of identity, proof of NYS residency, and your completed application (MV-44 or ID-44). There is no additional fee for a REAL ID. All normal transaction fees still apply.
Please note that in the event that capacity is reached, any customers who are unable to be seen during the visit will be assisted and encouraged to make a reservation to their local DMV office to complete their transactions.

We invite you to come and join us for an unforgettable afternoon of music at the Great Neck Library! Joe Stroppel, a tenor with a passion for Golden Age Broadway and American popular songs, will present a repertoire of classic hits and lesser-known gems from Golden Age Broadway and early- to mid-20th-century popular music. 
Joe Stroppel was born and raised in Glen Cove, NY. His father, Frederick Stroppel, is a playwright, screenwriter, and opera enthusiast, and his mother, Liz, is an early childhood music educator. His late grandmother, Betty Kash, was a cabaret singer &amp; theatre director in New York City. His first major theatrical experience was a regional teen production of Les Misérables - in which he played the lead role of Jean Valjean - and he's been performing ever since.
Joe spent over three years of his undergrad at Hunter College as an assistant to accomplished conductor Michael Sheetz. A two-time Emile Anders award winner for vocal excellence in Dr. Sheetz's collegiate ensembles, he was also a 2024 winner of the Hunter Symphony Orchestra's Aria Competition. Joe also sings as a choral scholar at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Sea Cliff, NY. 
His solo work in oratorio includes performances of Bach’s Magnificat, Actus Tragicus, and Christmas Oratorio, Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass, Mozart’s Coronation Mass and Requiem, Vivaldi’s Magnificat and Brahms’ Neue Liebeslieder. He sang the tragic title role in Carissimi’s Jephte, and he performed with the American Opera Project in the world premiere of Precipice. In 2024, Joe portrayed the villainous Brahmasura in Mohini during the Hunter College Pocket Opera festival, and he traveled to the International Summer Opera Festival of Morelia in Mexico, where he sang Remendado in Bizet’s Carmen. Joe performed as Miss Trunchbull in MATILDA: The Musical at the Jeanne Rimsky Theater in March 2025. That summer, he sang as Orpheus in Offenbach's Orpheus in the Underworld, and he understudied the role of Tobias in Opera Maine's production of Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd. ReelAbilities Film Festival is the world’s leading film festival dedicated to advancing disability representation, accessibility, and inclusion through the power of storytelling. Each year, ReelAbilities presents a curated selection of feature films, documentaries, and shorts that challenge stereotypes, expand perspectives, and highlight authentic lived experiences.

Join us for a moderated discussion with the author of "Treasures of the Mashadi Kitchen." Learn about the most popular dishes among the Mashadi Jewish Communities, as well as tradition and heritage. In the author's own words, "My mother, grandmothers, aunts, and mother-in-law poured their souls into every dish. Each recipe here carries a bit of their spirit...Treasures of the Mashadi Kitchen is my way of sharing the warmth of our heritage with you."
The evening's conversation will be moderated by Rebecca Sassouni. Rebecca is a past Board of Education President, a current board trustee, and a member of the Mayor’s Coalition for Unity. A lawyer and writer, Rebecca serves on various boards and committees focused on education and law, including first-generation American Persian Jewish experiences.

Come and see the exhibition of striking masterpieces of sculptures by Dr. Suzanne Posner from May 1 to July 31 at the Great Neck Library at 159 Bayview Avenue, Great Neck. The sculptures are located at the bookshelves in the Main Library's Reference Study Area. Be sure to join us for an art reception on June 6 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Main Library's Front Lobby. "Making art is joyful. An artist makes art out of the materials available. The nature of the materials influences or even elicits the creation. I enjoy seeing the materials from which the art originates; the stone, the paint, the paper, the wire. I am a direct carver, often starting a piece without knowing what the subject will be or changing the subject after starting. If a piece of stone breaks off unintentionally or a painting subject move, the artwork may need to change midway. I try to take the unexpected as an exciting challenge and continue the work with grace. I hope to bring joy to viewers with beautiful shapes and brilliant color." Dr. Suzanne Posner is an award-winning sculptor and painter. She has been sculpting in stone for 30 years and currently teaches stone sculpture at Cumberland School in Great Neck, NY. Posner’s work can be found in private art collections throughout the United States and has been seen in numerous group and solo shows. She is a member of The Art Students League of New York and The National Art League. Suzanne grew up creating clay creatures and unique jewelry and acting in school musicals. She has visited over 50 countries. She graduated from Bryn Mawr College with a B.A. in Philosophy and from the University of North Carolina with a D.D.S. While she practiced dentistry in NYC, she studied sculpture and painting at The Art Students League and The New School. She moved back to her hometown of Great Neck and started sculpting in stone as she raised 2 creative and responsible sons with her beloved husband, Alan Katz. In 2011, Suzanne was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, and she retired from dentistry to sculpt and paint and teach stone carving.

The Great Neck Library is hosting an art exhibition during the month of May 2026 at its Main Library Lower-Level Art Gallery at 159 Bayview Avenue, Great Neck. This exhibition features artwork by students from the North Shore Hebrew Academy. Join us for an art reception on Monday, May 4, at 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. “Creative Connections” showcases the artistic voices of students in grades 1–8 at North Shore Hebrew Academy. Rooted in a well-rounded fine arts program led by Mrs. Jill Cole and Mrs. Gwynne Stein, this exhibit reflects students’ exploration of a wide range of artists, styles and medium. Through their work, students express personal connections to Judaism and to the world around them. Pieces in the exhibit are inspired by artist studies, Jewish holidays, and both Judaic and general studies curricula, highlighting how creativity can bridge learning across disciplines. At NSHA, the art program is designed to engage students in meaningful experiences that connect heritage, culture, and personal expression. “Creative Connections” invites the Great Neck community and beyond to experience how art serves as a powerful tool for understanding identity, strengthening values, and bringing our mission to life—encouraging students to see themselves as active participants in both the Jewish and global community.

Join us for an afternoon of music with Paige Patterson and her band as they revive memories of a "bygone era" and restore one's faith in the power of music. The genre is from Sinatra to Santana, to 70's rock, classic soul, Broadway, and songs in other languages. If you like Michael Bublé, Ella Fitzgerald, Carole King, or Stevie Wonder, then this will be your show!
Attendees are invited to bring a photo of their mother, grandmother, or other maternal figure in their life as part of our felt board tribute.
Paige Patterson is a recent NYSCA recipient through the Huntington Arts Council. She's performed on the Harry Chapin Stage for the Fall Festival, Southampton Center for the Performing Arts, at Port Jefferson through the Greater Port Jefferson Arts Council, and numerous libraries and community centers throughout Long Island. It's a 'pure joy' to have her return to the Great Neck community!

Memory cafés are another way people with memory loss and their loved one are coming together for a light meal or snack, enjoy live entertainment, make new friendships, and support one another. People can relax and just be themselves, knowing that no one judges them. Everyone there is going through almost the same things that you go through every day. A memory café has no real agenda or purpose except to enjoy each other’s company and help you and your care partner stay connected – the focus is on having fun and being together.

During the Memory Café you will:
<ul><li>Be provided a complimentary Kosher lunch for 1 family caregiver and 1 care recipient.</li><li>Enjoy live music</li><li>Connect to our community and receive resources.</li></ul>



Cafés are open to people who are involved with the care and support of the family member with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. This event is provided by Willing Hearts, Helpful Hands at the Parker Jewish Institute, in conjunction with Nassau County Office for the Aging, and supported by a grant from the New York State Department of Health.

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas
is a 2006 historical fiction novel by Irish novelist John Boyne. The plot concerns a German boy named Bruno whose father is the commandant of the Auschwitz concentration camp and Bruno's friendship with a Jewish detainee named Shmuel. 
The book was made into a movie in 2028, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas (2008 PG-13 1 hr. 34 mins). During World War II, 8-year-old Bruno (Asa Butterfield) and his family leave Berlin to take up residence near the concentration camp where his father (David Thewlis) has just become commandant. Unhappy and lonely, he wanders out behind his house one day and finds Shmuel (Jack Scanlon), a Jewish boy of his age. Though the barbed-wire fence of the camp separates them, the boys begin a forbidden friendship, oblivious to the real nature of their surroundings.

From Book to Movie “The Boy in the Striped Pajamas” Movie Screening & Book Discussion at GN Library

Raphael is sometimes said to have combined the grace of Leonardo with the power of Michelangelo into a new synthesis, thus bringing the High Renaissance in Italy to its zenith. From his untimely death on Good Friday at the age of 36 through the middle of the 19th century, he was considered to be the greatest artist of the Renaissance. However, with the advent of modern art in the late 19th century, Raphael was regarded as the least original of the triumvirate and as a result his work is not as well known. A major retrospective of the artist's work is at the Metropolitan Museum through June 28, 2026.
<a href="https://www.dennisraverty.com/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Dennis Raverty</a> is a speaker, author and art historian who for decades has delighted audiences with lively presentations at libraries, churches, synagogues, hostels and business lunches on a variety of topics in the history of art, from the Italian Renaissance to the Harlem Renaissance. His articles and criticism have appeared in Art Journal, Art in America, The International Review of African American Art, Art Criticism, The New Art Examiner, Prospects: An Annual of American Studies, Source: Notes in the History of Art, and Art Papers, where he was a contributing editor. He authored four entries for the most recent edition of the Grove Encyclopedia of American Art, published by Oxford University Press (2011).

Dr. Suzanne Posner is an award-winning sculptor and painter. She has been sculpting in stone for 30 years and currently teaches stone sculpture at Cumberland School in Great Neck, NY. Posner’s work can be found in private art collections throughout the United States and has been seen in numerous group and solo shows. She is a member of The Art Students League of New York and The National Art League. Suzanne grew up creating clay creatures and unique jewelry and acting in school musicals. She has visited over 50 countries. She graduated from Bryn Mawr College with a B.A. in Philosophy and from the University of North Carolina with a D.D.S. While she practiced dentistry in NYC, she studied sculpture and painting at The Art Students League and The New School. She moved back to her hometown of Great Neck and started sculpting in stone as she raised 2 creative and responsible sons with her beloved husband, Alan Katz. In 2011, Suzanne was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, and she retired from dentistry to sculpt and paint and teach stone carving.
