Salt Lake City Couples Book Fall Wedding Catering Earlier This Season

South Salt Lake caterer Have Party Will Travel sees more early requests for September and October dates as Utah keeps its top spot for marriage rates.
SOUTH SALT LAKE, UT — Local wedding caterers are heading into a busy fall, and couples in the Salt Lake City area are booking earlier than usual to get the dates they want.
Utah has had the nation's highest refined marriage rate for five years in a row. According to Bowling Green State University's National Center for Family & Marriage Research, the rate rose to 51.7 marriages per 1,000 unmarried women in 2024. Fall is also still the most requested wedding season in the country, so the state's high rate adds up to strong demand for vendors on September and October weekends.
Have Party Will Travel, a full-service catering and events company in South Salt Lake, says it has had more inquiries for fall weekend dates this year. Couples are also calling earlier than in past seasons to talk through menus, staffing, and event logistics.
"Earlier conversations mean fewer decisions left until the last minute," said Brandon Dennis, owner of Have Party Will Travel.
Why Couples Are Planning Ahead
Local caterers point to a few reasons fall couples are starting early:
- Popular fall weekend dates are limited
- Menu tastings and dietary accommodations take longer to arrange
- Larger guest counts need more staffing coordination
- Preferred venues are in high demand during peak months
Food safety is part of these early talks too. The USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service advises that wedding food shouldn't sit at room temperature for more than two hours, or one hour when it's above 90°F. The agency also recommends that caterers collect guest allergy information before the event.
One Contract, Fewer Timelines
With a full-service arrangement, one contract covers menu preparation, staffing, and setup, so couples have fewer separate vendor schedules to manage during a crowded season. Staffing plans are usually based on guest count and service style, including bar ratios and how many servers are assigned to each table.
Local providers say consultation and tasting requests for fall dates came in steadily all summer. Caterers along the Wasatch Front expect booking early to keep mattering as couples try to leave time for tastings, contract review, and staffing confirmation before peak dates.
