Everyday Philanthropy - Can We Ever Give Too Much?

When it comes to everyday philanthropy, Isaiah Thomas is a great example. Written by Ryan Van Wagenen of Cottonwood Heights.

When it comes to philanthropy, can we ever do too much? Rhetorical question, the answer is NO! We have been given so much and one way that we can show the gratitude that we have for all of that is by giving back and helping any of those that we can. One of my favorite NBA players is Isaiah Thomas. He is the ultimate example of a good guy!

He has been traded now twice in the past year or so. He was a candidate for MVP a couple years ago with the Boston Celtics and after an injury wasn’t playing at the same level that he was back then, so the Celtics traded him to the Cleveland Cavs with Lebron and then after only part of a season, he was traded again to the Los Angeles Lakers. He played his first game earlier this week and played quite well. Anyway, it was interesting, I turned on SportsCenter late one night when I couldn’t sleep and he was being interviewed. He said something to the effect of look, I’m always going to play my best. That’s what I do. And he said one huge part of my life is what I do off the court. Wherever I am, I always try to give back to the community and help those that need it. I feel like I’ve been blessed for a reason and I should show my gratitude and give back!

Could someone say something so in line with how we should be thinking about life? I think not. Isaiah Thomas is such a great man and I think that attitude he has about philanthropy and service will be paid back 10x at some point. Whether it’s in this life, his children’s lives, or in the life to come, it will happen. I am quite sure about that! We have all been given talents and how we use them shows the kind of person we are. We should all get in the habit of giving back and finding ways to help in the community where we can.

The group is donating Little Monsters stuffed toys to the Valley Hospital and needs help from willing volunteers. These dolls will be sewn by the AmeriCorp members at their annual member gathering in March. What is needed is helpers to cut the fabric and prep the material. Anyone that can come would be of great help to the organization. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to give UServe a call.
