Here are the top stories today in Salt Lake City:
- With the potential for record-breaking heat in the area this weekend, Salt Lake County officials wants seniors and other vulnerable people without air conditioning in their homes to know they can go to a "cool zone" offered in recreation centers and public libraries. The Salt Lake County Aging Services website has an interactive map that can direct you to your nearest cool zone. (KSL.com)
- To revitalize the neglected neighborhood just south of downtown, the Ballpark Station Area Plan calls for sweeping zoning changes to accommodate needed improvements, including redesigning the TRAX station for better connections and developing empty parking lots with retail and housing. The plan has seen continued interest from builders. (buildingsaltlake.com)
- Modern Display, a family-owned business known for its elaborate Christmas displays and decorations, is moving from its Salt Lake City location after four decades. The store's last day at 424 S. 700 East will be Friday, June 17. Modern Display is moving to a new location in Murray, at 5959 S. State St., that needs remodeling and is planned to reopen in August. - CAWS - Salt Lake City: "Help! Sweet little Maverick came to CAWS at just 4 weeks old from a rural Utah shelter. This teeny, little kitty arrived terribly sick with an upper respiratory infection, goopy eyes that were glued shut, and struggling to breathe. On top of all of his life-threatening ailments, this itty-bitty boy also has a badly damaged eye that needs to be removed ASAP! We are in need of help to cover the costs of his care so that we can get him well and into a loving adoptive home. Donations can be made online at caws.org, or through Venmo @caws-ut (swipe to business)." (CAWS - Salt Lake City via Instagram)
