🌱 SLC Theater Festival For Deaf + Utah Jazz, Airbnb Partner

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Salt Lake City.

Good morning, neighbors! Joseph Peterson here with today's issue of the Salt Lake City Daily.

First, today's weather:

Mostly sunny and cold. High: 41 Low: 28.

Here are the top three stories today in Salt Lake City:

  1. It began as a battle over interpreters and accessibility to ensure deaf students in Utah could experience the theatre in a way that didn't feel like an afterthought. Now, the SLC-born National Deaf High School Theater Festival is partnering with Deaf West Theatre in Los Angeles and featuring performances from high profile deaf actors like Daniel Durant from the Oscar-nominated film CODA, to provide students from 10 schools across the country an educational and performing arts experience of a lifetime. (Subscription: Salt Lake Tribune)
  2. Frida Kahlo is one of the most widely recognized artists in history. Now, to participate in the exploding trend of larger-than-life, immersive art experiences popular across the world, the Frida Kahlo Corporation has selected Salt Lake City as the location for the Frida Kahlo immersive experience to debut. After its SLC premier, the immersive experience will tour the U.S. and Montreal first before heading to Latin America. (ABC4.com)
  3. In response to the millions of refugees fleeing their homes in Ukraine, the Utah Jazz Foundation is partnering with Airbnb to fund more than 32,000 nights in Airbnb rooms across neighboring countries who have received Ukrainian refugees in need of temporary housing. Jazz owner Ryan Smith says he encourages every organization to support Airbnb's efforts. (Fox 13 News)
