Here are the top stories today in Salt Lake City today:
- The Salt Lake City Police Department has made an arrest in the homicide of 21-year-old University of Utah football player Aaron Lowe. 22-year-old Buk M. Buk was taken into custody early Sunday morning in Draper and accused of shooting and killing Lowe at a home on South Broadmoor Street. Salt Lake City Police Chief Mike Brown credited the community in identifying the suspect. (Gephardt Daily)
- Oct. 1 marked the beginning of a new water year for Salt Lake City — one that will hopefully bring more precipitation. After the hottest summer on record and historic drought conditions, measurable moisture fell significantly below the average of 1.06″ for the month, only receiving 0.17″ of rain for September. Additionally, lower monthly precipitation totals have greatly impacted the city's water year. (ABC 4)
- The Utah Supreme Court ruled unanimously on Thursday that a 2012 skiing collision involving a 9-year-old girl from Kentucky and a Park City woman was not the fault of the child or her parents. (KSL.com)
- Police have arrested a second suspect in a South Jordan shooting that sent a woman to the hospital. (KUTV 2News)
