• Utah is using rural residency programs to fill healthcare coverage gaps (upr.org) — Vernal is set to benefit from a new federally funded rural medical residency program aimed at keeping more doctors in small communities. Part of an $11.2 million national effort, the Vernal program should help strengthen local primary care and hospital coverage as other rural areas struggle with closures and provider shortages across the West. 
• BLM Utah approves Third Quarter 2026 oil and gas lease sale covering 34,596 acres across Vernal and Moab field offices (energiesmedia.com) — A new federal oil and gas lease sale has just been approved on tens of thousands of acres managed by the BLM’s Vernal Field Office, opening the door to more exploration near your community. While drilling still requires additional permits, the decision signals continued energy development in the region and future royalty revenue for Utah, following a public comment process earlier this year.
• USU Honors Presents 51st Annual Honors Last Lecture With Benjamin Burger (usu.edu) — A Utah State University professor based at the Uintah Basin Campus in Vernal has been chosen to give this year’s prestigious Honors Last Lecture in Logan on October 21. Benjamin Burger will explore what fossils and rocks reveal about extinction, resilience, and our future, with the free talk also livestreamed so Vernal-area residents can watch from home.
