Vermont Weather: Winter Storm Warning In Effect For Most Of State

As the system moves into Vermont, it's expected to bring heavy snow with accumulations between 8 to 12 inches.

BURLINGTON, VT — Much of Vermont is under a winter storm starting early Thursday as a huge swath of the United States braces for a significant winter weather system that's predicted to put millions of Americans in the path of heavy snow and freezing rain.

A previous winter storm watch was upgraded to a warning Wednesday and is in effect from 7 a.m. Thursday through 1 p.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service office in Burlington.

As the system moves in, light snow will develop across much of the state during the morning hours Thursday and continue through the afternoon. Accumulation of 1 to 3 inches is expected by sunset.

Snow intensity is expected to increase Thursday evening into Friday morning, dumping an additional 6 to 10 inches on some parts of the state. The snow should taper off by midday Friday, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

The storm will likely make travel difficult at times, especially during the Thursday evening and Friday morning commute.
