• BMH birthing center closure looms amid $4.8M shortfall (vnews.com) — Brattleboro’s birthing center at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital could close within nine months unless a $4.8 million shortfall is addressed, and town leaders are weighing a special Town Meeting to consider a one-time municipal tax hike. Medical groups are pressing the state to boost Medicaid reimbursements, while residents debate whether local taxpayers should shoulder new costs amid other big town needs. 
• Westminster Barracks / Criminal Threatening (blogspot.com) — State police say a 19-year-old Brattleboro resident was cited after an investigation into electronic threats reported in nearby Dummerston, with troopers later locating him back in town. The case is scheduled for Vermont Superior Court in Windham County in mid-September, and residents are reminded that court dates can change and should be confirmed with the clerk.
