Burlington police seek suspect after Pearl Street stabbing (mychamplainvalley.com) — Burlington police are asking for the public's help identifying a man suspected of stabbing a woman near Pearl and Clarke Streets after an earlier assault around Church and Cherry Streets. The victim was treated at UVMMC and later released with non-life-threatening injuries. Residents with information are urged to contact Detective Nikki Moyer at 802-540-2326.
   

2. Former Burlington College campus welcomes new apartment project (mychamplainvalley.com) — New permanently affordable condos are coming to Burlington's former college campus site, with 30 units planned off North Avenue aimed at middle- and low-income households. Backed by Champlain Housing Trust and federal funding, the Shale Beach Condominiums will expand local homeownership options, boost the city's tax base, and feature energy-efficient, transit-friendly design when completed by late 2027.
   

3. Man sentenced in Vermont for participation in grandparent scam (mynbc5.com) — A man involved in a "grandparent scam" that targeted elderly Americans was sentenced this week in federal court in Burlington to 33 months in prison and $256,000 in restitution. Prosecutors say he helped recruit couriers to collect cash from victims and then laundered the money, underscoring ongoing risks for older residents in and beyond Burlington.
   

4. Flu numbers low so far but COVID on the rise, Vt. health officials say (wcax.com) — Burlington health officials say flu cases remain low for now, but COVID-19 infections and some severe cases are increasing across Vermont, making this a good time to get vaccinated. Local residents can find both flu and COVID shots at pharmacies and primary care offices, and are urged to use at-home tests and isolate if they test positive for COVID.
   

5. Champlain Valley Dinner Train conductor keeps diners smiling on the rails (wcax.com) — If you're looking for a unique night out from Burlington, the Champlain Valley Dinner Train offers a rolling restaurant experience from the city to Salisbury in vintage 1930s cars. Manager of passenger services Steve Shover leads a 15-person crew serving more than 180 meals on busy trips, focusing on creating a fun, welcoming atmosphere for riders each fall weekend.
