After focusing first on word parts and now on boosting daily reading time across classes, coaches say teachers are weaving literacy into science, art and more, with students responding positively as the plan advances.

Swanton Electric seeks 30% rate hike from state regulators (vermontpublic.org) — Swanton Electric customers are facing a 30% rate increase that’s already taking effect, driven largely by damage to the rubber bladder at the Highgate Falls hydroelectric dam. With the facility producing far less power, the utility is buying more expensive electricity on the open market while exploring multimillion-dollar repair options that could shape local bills for years.
   

3. USA Luge announces Junior National Team roster (dailygazette.com) — A young luger from Swanton Wolfgang Lux, has earned a spot on the USA Luge Junior National Team, putting a local athlete on the path toward future national and Olympic-level competition. The newly announced roster mixes returning sliders and newcomers from across the country who will represent the U.S. in international events this coming season.
   

4. Massachusetts man drove over 100 MPH through Vermont, was detained at Canadian border, police say (mynbc5.com) — A high-speed chase that began in southern Vermont eventually drew in officers from the Swanton Police Department as a Massachusetts driver reportedly sped north toward Canada. Troopers and Swanton officers couldn’t safely stop the vehicle, but Canadian authorities detained the driver at the Highgate Port of Entry, where he was refused entry and turned over to Vermont State Police on multiple charges.
