Accidental Fire Damages Roof of Annandale Apartment

Maintenance workers were fixing the roof before the fire started

Earlier this afternoon, fire units from the engine 408 responded to a small accidental fire at 4305 Americana Drive.

Units arrived on scene at approximately 2:25 p.m. to the complex. At least two ambulances and four fire trucks were on scene. Captain Ralph Pisani with the Fairfax County Fire Department said the fire started while maintenance workers were fixing the roof of one of the buildings and a small portion of the area caught on fire.

"They must've had a torch or something up there and it caught that little area there," Pisani said. Neighbor Tammy Downing said another resident in the complex saw the flames while she was outside walking her dog and called 911. Downing said the fire department responded very quickly and the fire was out in a couple of minutes.
