Accidental Kitchen Fire Damages Annandale Home

Damage to the home is estimated at $75,000

A single-family home in west Annandale was badly damaged during a kitchen fire on Friday, May 6.

Firefighters responded to the fire at 4041 Taylor Drive at 12:50 p.m. According to the news release, fire investigators determined the fire was accidental and was caused by clothing placed on an electric stove burner in the kitchen. According to the news release, the home had no working smoke alarms.

Upon arriving on scene, firefighters encountered fire and smoke coming from the front of the home. They quickly extinguished the fire in the kitchen. Though the fire was contained mostly to the kitchen, there was smoke and water damage throughout the living area.

Both the person who was home and and the family pets all escaped unharmed before firefighters arrived. However, two adults and three pets have been displaced. Damage to the home is estimated at $75,000 and Red Cross is assisting the family.
