Ahmed Bile Signs Letter of Intent to Run for Georgetown University
The Annandale High School senior officially commits to the Hoyas.
(AHS) cross country runner Ahmed Bile signed his letter of intent to attend Georgetown University on Wednesday morning.
Surrounded by his family, coaches, friends, and AHS staff, the senior runner was all smiles as he made his decision official on National Signing Day. Bile, whose father is former middle distance runner and 1987 World Champion Abdi Bile, committed to Georgetown in November 2011.
“I agonized about it for about two to three days, but I’m really excited about my decision,” said Bile. Before choosing Georgetown, he considered schools such as the University of Virginia, the University of California Berkeley, the University of North Carolina, Duke University and others.

Ultimately, he chose Georgetown for the team atmosphere and the school’s academic reputation.
“Their academics are amazing and on top of that, they had a really good team, a lot of freshman and sophomores, so a bunch of guys I could grow with. No one’s going to graduate right when I get there,” Bile said. One of the things he’s most looking forward to is training with the team and getting the full college experience.

Bile’s running career at AHS began when he was a sophomore. Since the, he has built an impressive list of distinguished accolades. He’s a four-time Virginia High School League State Cross Country champion and was recently named the Gatorade Runner of the Year. In 2011, he defended his state title November, at the 2011 Foot Locker Cross Country Championships National Finals (FLCCC), won the , and placed first at the where he became the sixth-fastest runner to complete the three-mile course.
“We’re excited that he’s had this opportunity, “ said Cross Country Head Coach David O’Hara. “This guy is not somebody who has just done it on the track, done it in cross country in every level imaginable, he has been able to do it in the classroom. He’s not just had great grades, but also great character.”
