Annandale Apartment Fire Displaces 24 Residents Sunday Night

Damage at the 11-unit building is estimated at $75,000, according to fire department. Electrical problem in laundry room caused fire.

Two-dozen occupants of an Annandale apartment building were displaced after a fire broke out Sunday night, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.

Firefighters responded to the garden apartment fire Sunday at about 9:20 p.m., in the Annandale area of Fairfax County, according to the fire department. The apartment is located at 7455 Little River Turnpike.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, smoke was coming from the terrace level of the three-story, 11-unit apartment, the fire department said.

Firefighters conducted an aggressive fire attack and quickly brought the fire under control, according to the department. The occupants discovered the fire before smoke alarms sounded, the fire department said. Twenty-four occupants have been displaced and the Red Cross is assisting them. No one was injured, the fire department said.

Damage is estimated at $75,000.

According to fire investigators, the fire was accidental. An electrical problem in a utility laundry room on the terrace level caused the fire, the fire department said.
