Annandale Box Cutter Stabbing: Officer Performs Life-Saving Action

A Fairfax County officer arrested a man that stabbed another with a box cutter, then gave life-saving treatment to the victim.

ANNANDALE, VA—An officer is being praised for his life-saving action in the box cutter stabbing in Annandale last week.

Around 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 2, Fairfax County Police responded to the stabbing at Commons and Patriot Drives. Police determined a man had stabbed another with a box cutter.

Officer Max O’Konski was the first to arrive on scene. He quickly got the box cutter away from the suspect and took him into custody. Then he rushed over to the victim, who was cut into an artery in his arm. O’Konski applied a compression bandage, which doctors later said saved the man’s life.

The victim was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries but is expected to recover. The suspect, Juan Vasquez-Garcia, 33, was arrested, charged with malicious wounding and taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
