Annandale Fire Injures 1, Causes Estimated $236K In Damages

The late Monday townhouse fire displaced three residents, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.

ANNANDALE, VA — Three residents are displaced after a late Monday fire in Annandale, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue. One resident was injured.

Firefighters responded to the 5000 block of Americana Drive around 10:49 p.m. to find heavy fire at a middle unit townhouse. A resident had discovered the fire and unsuccessfully tried to put it out. He evacuated and alerted a neighbor, who called 911 for help.

Units were able to quickly get the fire under control. The one injured resident was taken to the hospital for a check-up. There were no firefighter injuries.

Fire investigators determined the fire started in the living room when a candle was dropped, igniting combustible materials. Smoke alarms were in the home but did not activate because the batteries were missing or dead.

The fire department estimated damages were around $236,250. The displaced residents are receiving Red Cross assistance.
