An Annandale man was killed in a motorcycle crash in Springfield on Saturday, July 16 around 7 p.m. at the intersection of Braddock Road and Twinbrook Road after being hit by a car traveling in the opposite direction.

According to news release from the police, a 63-year-old woman from Maryland was driving westbound on Braddock Road when she attempted to turn left on Twinbrook Road. The Annandale man, William Tyler Cowherd, of 4605 Medford Drive, and a 50-year-old man from the Manassas area were driving their 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycles eastbound on Braddock Road in the left travel lane when a 1997 Lexus sedan turned in front of them.

Police said both men applied their brakes but could not stop in time to avoid the collision and each struck the passenger-side of the Lexus. The two men and a female passenger Cowherd's bike were all transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital. Cowherd died from his injuries a short time later.

The 44-year-old Annandale-area woman on Cowherd's bike and the 50-year-old Manassas-area man driving the other Harley suffered severe injuries, but are expected to survive. The woman driving the Lexus was not injured.

Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash, but Fairfax County Police said all three motorcyclists were wearing helmets and the investigation is ongoing.
