Annandale Pool Trespasser Tries To Steal Officer's Gun

A struggle broke out between police and the Annandale man when he was caught trespassing at the pool.

ANNANDALE, VA—What started as a trespassing incident escalated into an assault at a closed-off Annandale pool Tuesday.

Around 8:30 p.m., police discovered the suspect trespassing at Canterbury Woods Swim Tennis in the 5100 block of Southampton Drive, where the pool is closed.

The suspect assaulted the officer when approached and attempted to flee. The officer and man began to struggle, ad the man attempted to grab the officer's gun at one point.

The suspect was injured and was taken to the hospital in police custody. The officer was not injured.

Mitchel William Kern, 19, of Annandale, was charged with trespassing with intent to damage property, assault on a law enforcement officer and attempt to disarm a law enforcement officer.
