Annandale Woman Steals Thousands From Church: Police

Police believe an Annandale woman who volunteered for the church took thousands from collections.

ANNANDALE, VA—An Annandale woman is facing charges for stealing thousands of dollars from a church she volunteered for.

On Sept. 7, a parish employee at Queen of Apostles Church (4329 Sano Street, Lincolnia), reported suspicions of a volunteer taking money from weekly collections. The employee said the woman could have stolen money when she was counting the weekly collections.

Police set up surveillance and observed the suspect pocket money during her counting duties. Sandra Irene Cortes, 53, of Annandale was arrested and charged with three counts of grand larceny. She was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
