Bailey's Crossroads Rotarians Deliver Dictionaries to Schools
Third-graders receive new dictionaries as part of Rotary's commitment to education.
On Nov. 7, the Bailey’s Crossroads Rotary Club distributed more than 450 dictionaries to third graders at three Fairfax County elementary schools; Parklawn, Glen Forest and Bailey’s Upper.
Rotarians visited each classroom to hand out the dictionaries. Members pointed out features of the books including the longest-word and the list of presidents. Students were asked to write their names in the dictionaries.
The object of the Rotary Dictionary Project is to provide third grade students a personal dictionary of their very own that will serve them through elementary and middle school.
Rotarians volunteering their time included Kari Kelley (event organizer), Kathleen McBride, Lloyd Stoessell, Roger Hoskin, Max Gross, Dennis Shannon and Patricia and Dave Borowski.
This is an annual event where the Bailey’s Crossroads Rotary Club purchases the dictionaries for distribution.
