Baileys Crossroads Rotary Club hosts talk on human trafficking
Experts warn of dangers to community

The Bailey’s Crossroads Rotary Club sponsored a dinner and talk on human trafficking last night at the Full Kee restaurant in Bailey's Crossroads. Globally, human trafficking is the second most lucrative crime enterprise after drug trafficking. Northern Virginia (and Bailey's Crossroads) has one of the highest rates of human trafficking due to its geographic location and proximity to three airports, interstate highways, truck stops, sporting events, tourism, and casinos. The dinner was planned by International Committee Chair Ava Nguyen with help from Rotarians Patricia Borowski, Judy McDermott, Kari Kelly and Kate Walter. Friends of Rotary Karrie Kramer and Sarah Flores-Shannon Jr. helped organized the event with Flores-Shannon serving as the MC. Speakers included Detective John Spata, Fairfax County Police Department - Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Unit; Det. Keith Baker Bill Woolf, Just Ask Trafficking Prevention, executive director; Ray Patten, Northern Virginia Human Trafficking Initiative; Daniel Kazmierski, President of the Rotary Club of Springfield Virginia; and Meesh Peters, Poe Middle School teacher and Bailey’s Crossroads Rotarian. Bailey’s Crossroads Rotary Club is part of the Northern Virginia Rotary team led by the Rotary Club of Springfield Virginia and the Rotary Club of West Springfield to educate the community about the scourge of human trafficking.
